Adoption fees may vary based on age or other factors; please confirm with your Adoption Coordinator. Canine adoption fees range from $30+. Senior canines have a reduced adoption fee. Our adoption fee for cats are $75. The adoption donation goes toward the cost of veterinary care.
Our animals are spayed/neutered (unless they are a very young puppy or kitten), vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, heart worm tested (canines only), on heartworm (canine) and flea prevention, and heartworm treatment is provided if your adoptive pet is heartworm positive upon adoption.
Howlin' Woof Society (non-profit) is funded completely by donations, and all of our “staff” are unpaid volunteers.
The adopter is responsible for the transportation fee for the animal if the dog needs to be transported out of state; fee ranges depending on where and who the transporter is and that will be discussed at the appropriate time.
Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animal while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and necessities. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets.
Free pets usually come with no medical care, so while you may initially save on an adoption fee, the medical costs will add up quickly. Pets acquired from other methods may not be spayed or neutered and may not have a full set of vaccinations, adding to the expense.
