The XCEL Book Scholarship is being offered by Easton Banks Learning & Life Center, Inc. (EBLLC, Inc.) and is the first of its kind for this non-profit organization. The purpose of the XCEL Book Scholarship is to assist program participants of EBLLC and youth in the general community with the fulfillment of their educational goals. Only one book scholarship application will be accepted per academic year.
EBLLC will award 4 recipients with the XCEL BooK Scholarship in the amount of $250 each.
Deadline for electronic submissions is April 14, 2025 by 11:59 pm. Mailed applications must be postmarked by April 11, 2025. Late submissions will not be accepted. Applicants of the XCEL Book Scholarship will be notified via email whether they have been awarded or not.
To qualify for the XCEL Book Scholarship, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Applicant must be or have been an participant of one of EBLLC’s youth development programs or can provide proof of a financial need.
- 50 volunteer hours.
- Applicant must be a graduating high school senior and have a cumulative 3.0 G.P.A.
- Be resident of DeKalb County, Georgia or the Metro Atlanta area.
- Submit three letters of recommendation from an instructor, teacher or community leader. Recommendations cannot be from family members.
- Provide an official high school transcript.
- Applicant must attend a two (2) or four (4) year institution of higher learning.
- Provide a copy of acceptance letter to college/university or technical college and major in a S.T.E.M. field (math, science, technology, engineering).
- Write a 1600-word essay based on the following topics of your choice:
What are some of the causes of childhood hunger? Do you belief childhood hunger can be eradicated? If so, please explain in detail how this issue can be erased.
In your pursuit of higher education, how can you use your degree to promote sustainable living?
Based on today’s society, how can a person become a responsible stakeholder in their community (i.e. local, regional, national) at-large and assist with the creation of policies that help youth populations?
