    WHAT IS MICROBLADING?

Microblading is a technique of cosmetic tattooing performed specifically on the eyebrows. It is done by manually depositing pigment into the second layer of the skin (dermis). What makes it truly unique is the hand tool used. The unique formation of microblading needles allows the artist to create the look of real eyebrow hairs by tattooing surfer natural hair strokes in the skin. Not every skin type is a candidate for microblading, but may be able to fall under other categories of brow work.

    WHAT IS MICROSHADING?

This technique can be achieved manually by a handheld tool, which holds several pin-sized needles, or by machine (with a single nano needle to a set of 3 nano needles) to created pixels in the brow, filling in sparse areas. Microshading can be done with microblading, giving the appearance of more depth to the brows.

    WHAT ARE POWDER BROWS?

Powder brows, also known as ombre brows or ombre powder brows, is a technique that creates a soft, powdered look that subtly fills in your brow. Many people prefer this method due to its soft look and less invasive nature. It is essentially microshading all over and creates more of a “makeup” look.

    WHAT ARE HYBRID BROWS?

Best of both worlds! Hybrid brow is a mix of partial microblading and powder brows. This heals to a soft, bolder brow; not quite as natural as microshading and not as bold as a powder brow.

    WHAT ARE NANO BROWS?

Nano brows are done 100% digitally. This means all procedure is done 100% by machine which works like a tattoo machine, but uses an extremely fine needle to inject pigments into the epidermis. Each stroke is done by 1 needle, creating hairlike strokes within the brow. This procedure has a longer duration time than microblading and is suitable for most skin types.

PREP (PLEASE READ AS PRECARE IS VERY EFFECTIVE FOR PROCEDURE AND HEALING).

It all starts with a good canvas! The eyebrow area must be healthy, strong, non-sensitive, and non-irritated.  Here’s how to get your skin ready for the procedure:

Do not pick/tweeze/wax/perform electrolysis one week before the procedure.

Do not tan two weeks prior to the service, or have a sunburned face.

Do not have any type of facial 2 weeks prior to the procedure.

Do not work out the day of the procedure.

Do not have botox 4 weeks prior to the procedure.

Do not take Fish Oil or Vitamin E one week prior to the procedure (they are natural blood thinners).

Do not wax or tint your eyebrows 3 days prior to the procedure.

In order to avoid excessive bleeding and poor color deposit:

Do not drink alcohol 24 - 48 hours before your tattoo.

Do not consume coffee before your procedure.

Do not take an Aspirin or Ibuprofen for pain relief 2 days prior to procedure (these also thin the blood).

If client has a preferred look for brows, please come to your appointment with your brows drawn in with makeup, for me to observe. Mimicking client's brows to their preference is case by case, dependent on client's facial structure.

Please read and fill out this “Disclosure & Release Agreement” completely, making certain that you understand all information provided, and that your information is correct.

You have the right to be informed so that you may make the decision whether or not to undergo the procedure, after knowing the risks and hazards involved. This disclosure is simply an effort to make you better informed so you may give, or withhold, your consent to the procedure.

Microblading is the process of inserting pigment into the dermal layer of the skin and is a form of tattooing, though semi- permanent and not permanent.

All instruments that enter the skin or come in contact with body fluids are disposable and disposed of after use. Cross contamination guidelines are strictly adhered to.

It is usual to expect a touch-up treatment after the healing is completed from your initial treatment. Initially the color will appear much more vibrant or darker compared to the end result. At healing stage, eyebrows will shrink up to 10-30%. Usually within 7 days the colour will fade 20-50%, soften and look more natural. The pigment is semi-permanent and will fade over time and will likely need to be touched- up within 18 months – 3 years, dependant on your skin type and lifestyle. This is completely normal and should be expected.

    Things to consider:

Discomfort during the microblading procedure: There is a possibility of some discomfort even after the topical aesthetic has been used. Aesthetics work better on some people than others.

Infection: Although rare, there is a risk of Infection. The areas treated must be kept clean and only freshly cleaned hands should touch the areas. See “After Care” below for instructions on care.

Uneven Pigmentation: This can result from poor healing, infection, bleeding or many other causes. Your follow up appointment will aim to correct any uneven appearance.

Asymmetry: Every effort will be made to avoid asymmetry but our faces are not symmetrical so adjustments may be needed during the follow up session to correct any unevenness. Remember our brows are sisters and not twins!

Excessive Swelling or Bruising: Some people bruise and swell more than others. Some people don’t bruise or swell at all.

Aesthesia: Topical anaesthetics are used to numb the area to be microbladed/microshaded.

Sleep: Avoid sleeping face down/on brows. Some clients prefer sleeping with a travel pillow. Use a fresh pillowcase while you sleep.

Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally exfoliate away. Picking can cause scarring or loss of color.

No facials, botox, chemical treatments or microdermabrasion for 4 weeks.

Avoid hot, sweaty exercise for one week.

Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning for 4 weeks after the procedure.  Wear a hat when outdoors.

Avoid long, hot showers for the first 10 days.

Avoid sleeping on your face for the first 10 days.

Avoid face-down swimming, lakes, and hot tubs for the first 10 days.

Avoid topical makeup and sunscreen on the area for a minimum of 2 weeks.

DO NOT rub, pick, or scratch the treated area.

    Eligible Based on Individual Cases:

Individuals with a dark pre-existing eyebrow tattoo or permanent makeup:
The tattoo or permanent makeup must be light enough for artist to draw hair strokes. We ask anyone with a previous eyebrow tattoo to send an email to jlao.makeup@gmail.com with a picture of their eyebrows with no makeup on, in order for artist to evaluate.

Individuals who are allergic to lidocaine or epinephrine
Our most used anesthetic is lidocaine and epinephrine so if you are allergic to it, we will not be able to use it during the procedure; however, you will still have an option to proceed but without a numbing agent to reduce the pain.

    Individuals with oily skin
Those with very oily skin are ineligible for microblading. Powder brows are recommended for this skin type. Those with less oily or combination skin, may consider a combination of microblading and powder effect, known as hybrid ombré. Artist will ultimately decide if they can perform microblading on your skin.

    TOUCH UP.

A touch-up session after 6-8 weeks is not necessary, but highly recommended, as everyone heals differently and the outcome will vary. Certain areas may not pick up during the first session and will need to be refilled. Pigment color may need to be adjusted, brow thickness and more strokes can be added.

    EYEBROW AFTERCARE.

Careful aftercare is very important for producing a beautiful and lasting result.

After initial appointment, it is recommended not to touch brows as much as possible, if necessary, do so with very clean hands. 2 hours post treatment apply a rice-grain size of aftercare product onto each brow side.

Your brows will develop little scabs after the treatment. It is very important to treat these scabs with total respect and leave them to heal and fall away naturally – the scabs will be attached to the pigment in the dermal layer, pulling them off can pull the pigment from the skin.

Keep your brows dry for the first 2 days, this isn’t always possible, so if they become wet DAB dry – never ever rub. After the second day, gently wash brow area with antibacterial, fragrance free soap. With a very light touch, use your fingertips to gently cleanse the eyebrows. Rub the area in a smooth motion for 10 seconds and rinse with water ensuring that all soap is rinsed away.

The wet healing method - applying aftercare product to the area after washing the area.

This method refers to the application of a product to the tattooed skin, meaning the skin will be kept “wet” during the initial stage of healing, meaning moist.  Product is added to the skin to provide hydration to aid in rebuilding new cells. When applying product during “wet” healing, the key is to apply only a very THIN (rice-grain size) layer of product and rub it into each brow. Wounds need oxygen to heal and suffocating the skin with a thick layer of product may prevent the skin from breathing and delay healing.

One must wash the brows daily to prevent bacterial build-up. I recommend that my clients wash the area twice a day (morning and evening) using a a gentle soap or cleanser such as baby shampoo and apply aftercare product 3-4 times a day (breakfast, lunch, dinner, and before bed is a pretty good guide). First, wash the hands with soap and water then using tepid water, gently cleanse the area in a circular motion using the fingertips.  The client should also be mindful of not getting the area too soggy or wet with activities such as swimming, long hot showers, and hot yoga. Remember, the wound needs to dry up.

During the first 2 weeks avoid getting any makeup on your brows.

Whilst your brows are healing only touch them with clean hands!

Do not expose the area to sun or tanning beds until fully healed and avoid swimming pools for 14 days. Do not dye or tweeze the eyebrows until fully healed.

DO NOT use any products containing acids (glycolic, lactic, or AHA), or exfoliants for 1 week post procedure.

Avoid saunas, swimming, and excessive sweating until the area is completely healed and you have a follow-up appointment. No gym for the 1 week post procedure.

FAILURE TO FOLLOW AFTER-CARE INSTRUCTIONS MAY RESULT IN INFECTIONS, PIGMENT LOSS OR DISCOLORATION.
