NASPA’s Transitional Membership is designed to bridge a gap for student affairs professionals who wish to stay connected to the Association while searching for their next opportunity following a job loss.
This expanded Transitional Membership is available at a reduced rate of $40, for one annual renewal or join, with the same benefits that the member had under their previous membership or would have had if they held a previous membership. Eligibility is based on the employment status of the student affairs professional.
In recognition of the significant impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the student affairs profession, the Transitional Membership eligibility has been expanded to include both renewing and brand new members who have been furloughed or laid off from a higher education/student affairs position, as well as recent graduate students who have yet to find employment in student affairs. To qualify, applicants must have no current employment and be actively seeking another position within higher education/student affairs. Please review the terms and eligibility requirements below before applying.
Terms and Eligibility Requirements:
- Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis in order of application date.
- Applicants will be contacted within 7 business days of their application submission.
- Transitional Memberships may not be received more than two times, and they are not awarded consecutively. If you held this membership type for your most recent previous membership, you may not apply for it again until the following membership year. Additionally, if you received a Foundation Membership Scholarship for your most recent previous membership, you may not apply for either the Foundation Membership Scholarship or Transitional Member Scholarship again until the following membership year.
- Those with current memberships that will expire within 90 days of submitting their application are eligible to apply.
- Applicants who purchase a membership while the application is in process will no longer be eligible to receive a Transitional Membership. If you apply for a Transitional Membership, do not purchase a membership until receiving NASPA's decision on your application. In the event that your application is approved, NASPA will provide an invoice to pay for your membership.
- Transitional Memberships are open for anyone in the field (both current members and non-members) in need, with preference given to those who have been furloughed or laid off from a higher education/student affairs position, as well as recent graduate students who have yet to find employment in student affairs.
- Applicants must have no current employment and be actively seeking another position within higher education/student affairs.
- Transitional Memberships are currently available until funding is expended. The NASPA Foundation will extend the program as needed.
