This scholarship was established in memory of Lillian Mulder Dalman who was a lifelong Holland resident, wife, and mother of four. She was a very active member of the community and a great fan of Hope College Basketball. She spent the last eight years of her life within the Resthaven Care Community and because of the outstanding care she received there, her family chose to begin a scholarship in her honor to assist employees of the Resthaven Care Community and their children who are pursuing additional education opportunities.
Eligibility criteria:
1. Must be an active Resthaven Care Community employee OR the eligible dependent child of an active Resthaven Care Community employee. The employee must be in good standing for a minimum of one year.
An eligible dependent child is the employee's natural child, legally adopted child, or a child placed with the member for legal adoption; or the member's step-child or a child for whom the member [or their spouse] are a courtappointed legal guardian [under a full (not limited) legal guardianship]. Children are eligible up to the age of 26, regardless of whether they qualify as a dependent for tax purposes.
2. Must desire to pursue continued education full or part-time through a school, college, university, or licensed training program.
3. Must write an essay stating professional goals.
4. Must have a recommendation by a supervisor (employee applicants) that speaks to the employee’s quality of care or a teacher/professor or school counselor (dependent child applicants). The recommendation must be emailed to stimmerman@cfhz.org no later than March 20.
5. Financial need.
The scholarship recipient(s) will be selected based on the strength of their essay, recommendation, and financial need. Applicants who desire to continue as Resthaven employees are preferred for the award.
Previous recipients of the award may reapply and, if selected, may receive the award a maximum of two times in four years.
