  • DROP OFF & PICK UP

  • The Stitch School is a well-oiled machine and runs on a tight schedule. I have multiple classes & multiple students, and it relies on YOU dropping off and pickup up on time.

DROP OFF: please have your daughter at class at the start of class time, not 10-15 minutes before class. I typically won’t be in the classroom until class time, therefore please NO EARLY drop-offs. I cannot guarantee that I will be there to watch her.

PICK UP: please pick up your daughter at the end of class time.; not 10-15 minutes after class.

  • ABSENTEE/MISSED CLASS

  • ***VERY IMPORTANT***POLICY CHANGE***

I understand that things come up; weather gets bad or your daughter gets sick or a soccer game is scheduled. Please know that I am willing to work with you & her on making up any class time she has missed.

However, there are NO MORE "extra" scheduled make-up days.  I will have extra machines available during my regularly scheduled classes, therefore it is UP TO YOU to come during another one of my class times that works for your schedule.

Again: this is a policy change!  There are no "extra" scheduled sewing classes this year.  It is your responsibility to coordinate with me on scheduling a time your daughter make up her class during one of my regular class times.

    Thank you for understanding!

  • ENCOURAGED AGES

  • Open to young girls, ages 9 & up. I will do my very best to place your daughter in a class with other girls similar in age; this could vary from 1-3 years. I have found in my years of teaching that a few years in age difference doesn’t matter when it comes to machine sewing. WE all start out at the beginning!

  • SEWING QUALITY & PERFECTION

  • I cannot promise stitch perfection, but I can promise FUN & LEARNING! Every effort will be made to have your daughter complete all projects. However, since this will vary based on the child's sewing efficiency and time management, I cannot guarantee that all the projects will be done within class time.

  • SNACKS

  • I’ve always said that a necessary tool to sewing is a good cup of coffee and a cookie! While I do not provide snacks at The Stitch School, I do allow them. Sewing makes us hungry!

I HAVE A KITCHEN & AND OVEN.  Please feel free to send a water bottle or drink and a snack with your daughter to class. You can also send slice-n-bake cookies from the store and we will bake them fresh during class!

  • USE OF SEWING MACHINE

  • All projects are made using a needle & thread either by hand sewing or machine sewing. All machines will be provided by me. If your child has their own machine at home, she is welcome to bring it to class each class session to sew on. I will do my best to help her use her own machine, which includes loading the bobbin, learning the stitch functions, and threading the machine. And while I don’t expect anything to happen, there is always that chance! So, please note, I am not responsible for damage caused to her own machine while at The Stitch School.

  • CLASS STRUCTURE

  • The Stitch School structures the class setting so that sewing skills can be taught in a GROUP SETTING. Each student must be able to read & write, as we will all learn together and interact/share together. Each student will have their own sewing machine station, and access to scissors and other sewing notions. If your daughter has delays in fine-motor skills, fear of needles, pins, & scissors, learning disabilities, or cannot operate successfully in a group structure, this sewing program may not be for her. Please feel free to contact me and discuss any hesitations you may have.

  • SEWING SUPPLIES

  • The Stitch School’s Fashion Design program involves the creation of clothing items and accessories throughout our school year. We will have a book and pattern packet that each girl will follow. Each pattern calls for a certain amount of material (usually 1-2 yards), matching thread, and sometimes elastic. This should cost around $15-$20 extra each month.

I will NOT be able to provide this material to the students. This should be purchased by you and your daughter; you can shop at Hobby Lobby, or Walmart. I feel this aids in the creativity of the fashion design program and allows your daughter to be a part of the design process. As her mother, try to resist the urge to pick the fabric for her. Let her pick fabric that speaks to her and is fun! A fun patterned fabric = a fun learning process.

Also, I will NOT be able to provide the matching thread needed to complete each of her sewing projects. Please remember to pickup a thread spool at the same time you pick up her fabric. I suggest picking a basic color that she could use through several projects...like a tan or pink!
