Do you intend to live in New Zealand for the lifetime of the cat? Cats have an average lifespan ranging from 15-20 years. Owning a cat is a long-term commitment and must be carefully considered.

Terms and Conditions of Adoption
I agree to the following:

I understand that pre-approval to adopt allows me to meet the cat, but this is not a guarantee that adoption will proceed. It also does not oblige me to adopt the cat if I choose not to. Final approval of adoptions is at the sole discretion of The NZ Cat Foundation, and is based primarily on the best possible match for both the cat and the adopter.

I understand that this contract applies to whichever animal I select and am approved to adopt, even if not the pet listed in the application.

I accept full responsibility for the cat(s) I have chosen to adopt and for its/their welfare.

I will abide by all relevant laws of New Zealand, including the Animal Welfare Act 1999. I understand that I must provide the cat(s) with proper and sufficient food, water, shelter, and veterinary treatment and that I commit an offence if I do not do so.

If I need to rehome the cat(s) I shall ensure this is done with due diligence, care and skill to ensure the best outcome for the cat(s). If a suitable home cannot be found, I will return the cat(s) to The NZ Cat Foundation, and not to another rescue organisation.

I will ensure that all details for the cat(s) on the microchip database (www.animalregister.co.nz) remain current.

I agree to keep The NZ Cat Foundation updated on the progress of the cat(s).

If the cat(s) develop any illness within one month of adoption, I shall immediately contact The NZ Cat Foundation for advice and treatment options, as we have our own vet clinic on site.

These are rescue cats and occasionally they could have medical conditions such as gingivitis, stomatitis, or mouth problems develop. If any of these conditions occur in the future, you agree to contact The NZ Cat Foundation so we can organise appropriate treatment, at our cost, if you are not in a position to fund it yourself.

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES are cats to be euthanised without contacting The NZ Cat Foundation.

I have read, understood, and agree to comply with the TERMS & CONDITIONS - UNDESEXED KITTENS specified below relating to the adoption of an undesexed kitten, including keeping the kitten indoors until desexed, microchipped, and vaccinated, presenting the kitten for the required veterinary procedures, and understanding the consequences of non-compliance.

TERMS & CONDITIONS - UNDESEXED KITTENS

If I am adopting a kitten that has not yet been desexed, vaccinated, or microchipped, I acknowledge and agree to the following terms and conditions:

Indoor Only
I agree to keep the kitten indoors at all times until it has been desexed, microchipped, and has received its required vaccinations, unless otherwise approved in writing by The NZ Cat Foundation.

Veterinary Appointments
I agree to bring the kitten to the Foundation's veterinarian at the sanctuary for its desexing, microchipping, and vaccination appointments on the dates arranged by The NZ Cat Foundation.

Alternative Veterinary Approval
If I wish to use my own veterinarian, I must obtain prior approval from The NZ Cat Foundation before making any arrangements. If approval is granted, I agree to provide proof that the kitten has been desexed, microchipped, and vaccinated within the timeframe specified by The NZ Cat Foundation.

Failure to Comply
I understand that failure to book or attend the required veterinary appointments, failure to provide approved proof of treatment, or failure to comply with these conditions will constitute a breach of this adoption agreement.

Recovery of the Kitten
In the event of a breach of these terms, I acknowledge and agree that The NZ Cat Foundation reserves the right to recover the kitten without further notice. Any adoption fee paid will be forfeited and will not be refunded.
