Placenta Encapsulation Disclaimer
Placenta encapsulation is the process of preparing the placenta after the birth of the baby by cleaning, steaming and dehydrating, grinding, and placing it into capsules for the person who gave birth to use at their discretion.
Limitations and Disclaimer
I am not using my licensed medical profession as a Midwife while encapsulating your placenta and I will not use it to diagnose, treat, or prescribe for any health condition throughout . Services and fees are for the preparation and encapsulation of your placenta, not for the sale of the pills. No specific benefits or effects are promised. Any benefits will vary from person to person. Some of the ascribed benefits of placenta consumption are supported by research; however, these benefits have not been evaluated or approved by the FDA. It is your responsibility to determine whether using placenta preparations may be of benefit to you.
Client Responsibility
It is your responsibility to notify me after the birth (ideally within 24 hours) to make arrangements for pick up and drop off. I request that you call during the hours the sun is up. If the sun is down call me first thing in the morning. Failure to do so may result in delayed placenta preparation and encapsulation and may cause spoilage of the placenta, which would render it unusable for encapsulation. It is your responsibility to discuss the release of your placenta from the hospital where you give birth (or backup hospital for home births) and to ensure proper labeling and storage of your placenta in a refrigerator or cooler with the placenta placed with ice until it can be picked up or delivered for preparation and encapsulation. Your placenta should not be treated with alcohol, formalin, or any other preservative. Please contact me if you need assistance with the hospital release. You should contact the hospital directly, not just your doctor or midwife.
Placenta Transport Preparation
Whether birthing at home or in a hospital, please ensure your placenta is kept fresh. It can remain at room temperature for 3-4 hours following the birth. After that, it should be refrigerated or otherwise kept cool. If you are practicing some form of delayed cord cutting or lotus birth, ice packs may be wrapped up with the placenta to prevent spoilage. If for some reason, it is going to be more than 3 or 4 days before the placenta can be prepared, it should be frozen. A frozen placenta will take somewhat longer to prepare since I prefer to gently defrost it prior to preparation. *** It is my goal to begin processing your placenta within 24 hours of the birth of your baby! ***
HOW TO PREPARE FOR PICK UP:
- Place the placenta with cord still attached in a gallon size ziploc bag and zip it.
- Place that Zip lock bag in a second gallon size ziploc bag and zip it.
- Place the double bagged placenta in a small cooler or lunch box with 2-3 sandwich size bags that are filled with ice and zipped completely.
Packaging your placenta correctly is extremely important for the sanitation of your placenta as well as the transportation teams safety. If your placenta is not packaged by the aforementioned standard you will be asked to repackage it and deliver to the
Placenta pick up and drop off is not offered to clients 20 min from East Brainerd, TN. If you are beyond that radius it is your responsibility to either mail or deliver the placenta in a disposable cooler and I will mail your finished placenta products back to you.
Placentas that are planning to be mailed should be consulted with us to ensure proper shipping and storage before hand.
If you decide to encapsulate in labor or day of you should anticipate a little bit of delay as supplies are pre purchased when order comes through. On occasion we have supplies on hand and no delay is warranted though.
Placenta Restrictions
It is important to note that there may be circumstances under which your placenta cannot be used. Significant abnormalities of the placenta may necessitate your doctor or midwife sending your placenta to Pathology for further examination. Other conditions, such as signs of infection in the mother during labor, may mean that consuming your placenta will not be beneficial to you. If in doubt, I will consult with you before proceeding. If the placenta service chosen is "raw" this is when these things can pose a risk, but most of the services using the TCM method will allow it to still be fine to do. If you do not consult with your placenta specialist and you decide to forego encapsulation you will not be offered refund.
It should be possible to claim your placenta after Cesarean surgery.
Please let me know if you have any health conditions which may affect the health of your placenta or the health and safety of anyone who may come in contact with your placenta. These include STDs and other communicable diseases.
If you taking any medications regularly, other than prenatal vitamins, please detail them on the last page.
The Method I will use to prepare your placenta is below:
Traditional Chinese Method - Placenta is drained of blood then steamed. Once steamed, the placenta is thinly sliced, dehydrated, and ground for encapsulation.
I will pick up your placenta at an agreed-upon time and have your pills completed in 1 week (most of the time its sooner). I will contact you once your pills are completed to arrange a time for pick up or drop off ( or on occasion I will need to mail them due to midwifery obligations)
Please remember that I am also a Midwife. In the event that I am called to a birth, there may be a delay in preparing your placenta.
I will provide instructions through text for explanation of the proper storing and handling of the finished placenta capsules and guidelines for daily usage.
Fees
$300- This includes placenta encapsulation (with herbs) a placenta print and a cord keepsake when able to be done. At times the handling of the placenta or the cord being cut too short will limit the options here. (If you would like to have anything further done with your placenta ie: smoothie bits please make sure to inform me the day I receive your placenta)
Should your placenta be unusable and you require a refund of services your refund will be refunded within 30 days. Because the supplies that are purchased to prepare and process your placenta can not be returned the refund will be less $50.
When you sign your agreement below, you will then forward payment to one of the payment platforms below with your due date and services listed in the memo. If your payment is not received prior to pick up you will be asked for payment before processing your placenta.
