Procedure
Step 1: Nomination of Qualified Candidate
A qualified individual that fits the requirements of the Ohio DECA Honorary Life Membership Award may be nominated for the award by any member of Ohio DECA. This includes active members, professional members, and the Ohio DECA State Advisor.
The nomination must be completed by submitting the official Honorary Life Membership Nomination Form found on the Ohio DECA website. This form may include proof of the following:
- One-page chronological listing of key achievements at the local, district, and state level that highlights the candidates outstanding service to Ohio DECA.
- A letter of recommendation.
- A professional headshot of the nominated candidate.
- Optional: Resume of the nominated candidate.
All nominations must be submitted no later than November 1st to be considered for the Honorary Life Membership Award.
DEADLINE EXTENDED TO FEBRUARY 1, 2021, VIA COUNCIL VOTE ON 12/4/2020.
Step 2: Selection of Award Recipient
Nomination application will be reviewed by Ohio DECA state staff, to ensure minimum qualifications, as outlined above, are met. All candidates who meet all requirements of Honorary Life Membership Award will be approved as qualified candidates for consideration by the Ohio DECA Executive Council.
Qualified candidate applications packets will be reviewed by the Ohio DECA Executive Council. At the recommendation of the Executive Council, up to three (3) Honorary Life Membership Awards will be granted to selected candidates. The candidate must receive a three-fourths affirmative vote from the Ohio DECA Executive Council, to be selected as an award recipient.
Step 3: Presentation of Award
The selected award recipient(s) will be extended an invitation to the Grand Awards session of the annual Ohio DECA Career Development Conference. The individual(s) will be recognized during the session and will receive a plaque indicating their life membership in Ohio DECA. After the Ohio DECA Career Development Conference, the award recipient(s) will be recognized on the Ohio DECA website.
