The Canopy™ Method: College Prep in Math & English
College Prep English:
Reading & Writing
The focus will be on preparing for college-level English courses. Each week, there will be an independent unit focused on reading comprehension and writing. A text of three pages or less will cover science, history, or famous people. The first class will include a discussion of the text, both overt and covert messages, and note-taking skills to prepare to write an essay. The second class will incorporate writing between three to five paragraphs of a persuasive essay. Instruction will include technical aspects of writing (grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc.) as well as self-editing and discussion of how to use the text to include relevant information. All student-produced material will be thoroughly edited by the instructor, complete with feedback and suggestions for improvement. Taught by Don M. (UC San Diego, Chapman University).
