Would you like to join the Veggie Volunteers? Come help us grow in the Garden! No experience is required.
This program will be open to the public on Wednesday mornings from 9:30am (weather dependent). Join the Master Gardener of Cumberland County, FTCC Horticulture Students and, staff of the Cape Fear Botanical Garden grow a fresh future for families, adults and youth in the community.
American Public Gardens Association and United States Botanic Garden have awarded funds to Cape Fear Botanical Garden to participate in the Urban Agriculture Resilience Program. This program enables CFBG to grow and distribute produce, especially to communities with food access challenges; maintain and expand urban agriculture and other food growing education programs; and promote wellness and nutrition by educating the public about growing and consuming fruits and vegetables.
Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult who will be responsible for the child at all times. We will meet if there is light rain but of course use your best judgement, we will not meet in dangerous incelement weather. You can expect to be involved in these tasks:
- pulling weeds from garden beds
- watering vegetables and flowers
- harvesting vegetables
- filling produce boxes
- weighing produce
- record keeping
- pest control
- cutting vegetation back
- hands on educational value
...and so much more!
Appropriate gardening attire is expected, with long pants recommended. Closed-toe shoes and hats are encouraged! Please bring to water bottle, sunscreen (if needed), a hat, bug spray, poncho etc.
