    You may qualify for the Child and Adult Care Food Program.

    The program serves children 18 and younger and adults generally 60-years old or older.

    To be eligible, household income must be at or below 185% of the federal poverty guidelines or the household must already be receiving other types of qualifying state or federal assistance or benefits.

    The program is administered statewide by nonprofit, for-profit, or governmental organizations that operate in their own center(s) and/or oversee the management of the progam in child care centers, day care homes, afterschool care programs and/or adult day care centers that are not part of the organization’s legal entity.

    Contact the administrator of your program to learn if their organization participates and if you're eligible.

    You may qualify for the Commodity Supplemental Food Program.

    The program serves adults generally at least 60-years old or older.

    To be eligible, household incomes must be at or below 130% of the federal poverty guidelines.

    The program is administered statewide by food banks. Contact your area food bank to determine if you're eligible.

    You may qualify for the Farmers' Market Nutrition Program.

    The program serves children up to 5-years old and women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or postpartum.

    To be eligible, participants must be certified through the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), which you can learn more about here.

    The program is administered in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Lubbock, San Antonio, Pharr, Tyler, and Wichita Falls by food banks and private nonprofits.

    If you live in one of these cities, contact your area food bank to determine if you're eligible.

    You may qualify for the Food Assistance for Disaster Relief Program.

    The program serves all persons affected by a disaster.

    There is no eligbility requirement, but the program is generally for persons affected by a diaster who are receiving assistance in a shelter. USDA supplies food that relief organizations need for emergency operations after the President or another authorized official has declared a major disaster or a situation of distress.

    When applicable, the program is administered statewide by Disaster Relief Agencies (e.g Red Cross, Salvation Army, etc.) and School Districts when they use USDA Foods to serve as shelters opened at a school.

    If you're experiencing a disaster, contact a relief agency to determine if you're eligible.

    You may qualify for the Food Distribution Program.

    The program serves children 18-years old and younger as well as adults.

    Eligibility is determined by organizations already operating other food assistance programs, including the National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program, Summer Food Service Program, Commodity Supplemental Food Program and The Emergency Food Assistance Program.

    USDA provides food to organizations operating these programs statewide, including public, private and charter schools, residential child care institutions, food banks and certain summer contracting entities. Food is then distributed by the organizations through the aforementioned food assistance programs.

    To determine if you qualify, you will need to be eligible and apply for one of the programs listed above.

    You may qualify for the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program.

    The program serves children 18-years old and younger.

    To be eligible, the child must be enrolled in a participating elementary school. The program is invitation-only and enables schools to provide no cost fresh fruits and vegetables to students outside of other programs, such as the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program.

    The program is administered statewide by public, private and charter schools.

    The program serves children 18-years old and younger and enrolled students up to 21-years old with disabilities.

    To be eligible, household income must be at or below 185% of the federal poverty guidelines or the household must already be receiving other types of qualifying state or federal assistance or benefits.

    The program is administered statewide by public, private and charter schools as well as residential child care institutions.

    The program serves children 18-years old and younger.

    To be eligible, household income must be at or below 130% of the federal poverty guidelines or the household must already be receiving other types of qualifying state or federal assistance or benefits.

    The program is administered statewide by public, private and charter schools as well as child care facilities and summer camps.

    Contact the administration of your school, child care facility or summer camp to determine if they participate in the program and how to apply.

    You may qualify for the Summer Meal Programs, including the Summer Food Service Program and the Seamless Summer Option.

    Both programs serve children 18-years old and younger and enrolled students up to 21-years old with disabilities.

    The programs are operated by organizations that serve low-income communities where 50% or more of the children qualify for no cost or reduced-price school meals or by organizations that serve specific groups of low-income children based on household income information.

    The Summer Food Service Program is administered statewide by private nonprofits, governmental entities and summer camps, as well as public, private and charter schools. The Seamless Summer Option is administered statewide by public, private and charter schools.

    Depending on your circumstances, there may be other help available to you.

    • Check with Texas Health and Human Services to determine if you qualify for SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, CHIP or other programs.
    • Check with Texas WIC to determine if you are eligible for WIC benefits.
    • If applying for a school nutrition program, check with your local school. They can provide more information about the application process and some may operate their own no cost or reduced-price meal programs outside of government-sponsored programs administered by the Food & Nutrition Division.
