• Mela Partnership: Open Call for Commissions

  • Swyron, by Nutkhut
  • The Opportunity

  • The Mela Partnership is looking to commission an artist to produce a new outdoor installation or durational artwork. Artists will be commissioned to present their work at Arts by the Sea in September 2020, and at Winter Droving in October 2020.

We particularly encourage applications from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic artists, as these groups are under-represented throughout the installation arts sector.

Please complete the application form below only after reading the separate accompanying guidance document.

  • The Theme

  • Reconnect

Artists are encouraged to review the presenting festivals (Arts by the Sea & Winter Droving) and create a design that is fitting within the context of both festivals. There is also an expectation that the installation would be suitable for further touring within a Mela context in 2021.

The installation should reflect a theme of Reconnect. This could be conceptualised in one or more of the following ways:

The meaning of mela as a place to connect.
The role and importance of human interaction.
    The innate sociality of people.
The importance of relationships, friendships, connections.
