Crown and Bridges
We suggest a crown if:
- Your tooth is over 60% filling and 40% natural tooth structure.
- After a large filling, and tooth will not heal.
- You have had a root canal.
- It is a case of aesthetic necessity.
- The tooth is cracked.
- You are replacing a missing tooth.
Post operatively- Your teeth need to heal after treatment and you may experience some of the following symptoms:
- Sensitivity to hot and cold liquids
- Sensitivity to touch and chewing
- Bruising of tissues from injection
In rare instances, a rootcanal could be required post operatively. Your crowned tooth still has natural tooth structure and can still be prone to cavities.
Procedure
A crown/bridge can be made out of gold, metal and porcelain. We will anesthetize the area. Take several impressions for lab purposes, and then smooth the tooth down approximately 1mm-1.5mm around the full circumference of your tooth/teeth. We will then fabricate you a temporary crown/bridge to go home with allowing 7-10 business days for the lab to fabricate your permanent crown/bridge. You will then come in for your second appointment where your crown/bridge will be tried in and you will confirm its comfort and shade. We will then cement it in.
