  • Parade narrative:

    • Describe your organization and unit in less than 100 words.
    • Narrative will be read at all Announcer Stands along the Parade route and may be used for television broadcast.
    • Please keep in mind that this is meant to be short and to the point as the unit will be moving while narrative is read by Parade Announcer.

  • Mandatory Parade Meeting:

    Wednesday, May 24, 2023, 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. 

    Queen Kapiʻolani Park Bandstand, metered parking is available off Monsarrat Avenue.

    Meeting is mandatory for at least 
    one representative per unit.

  • Parade Guidelines:

    1. The primary focus of this floral Parade is to honor and celebrate the legacy and memory of King Kamehameha I, unifier of the Hawaiian Island. Regardless of Parade theme, please keep this in mind while preparing for and participating in the King Kamehameha Celebration Floral Parade.

    2. Each entry must be submitted on an official parade application. No application, no entry.

    3. Incumbent politicians are welcome, however must represent only that office. No campaigning allowed in Parade.

    4. Parade Contact is responsible for making unit aware of and communicating all rules and regulations to, and understood by, the unit’s participants.

    5. The Parade Committee will determine suitability of all entrants.

    6. All decisions are final. All entries are subject to the approval of the parade committee. 

    Parade Day Guidance:

    1. All entries must remain in the order assigned by Staging Crew.

    2. We require that you stay on the parade route and keep pace with the unit in front.

    3. For yours and the crowd’s safety, no passing out or throwing anything from your unit. Watch for children along parade route.

    4. Please use adequate identification of your group or sponsor on your entry. Must have a banner carried at front of unit.

    5. Parade begins at 9:00 a.m., assembly start times vary.

    6. Stay hydrated throughout the parade route and apply sunscreen prior to parade start.

    7. All participants must abide by the rules and regulations established by the Parade Committee.

    8. Parade will end at Kapi‘olani Park. Keep right on Kalākaua Avenue and be mindful of Parade staff.

    9. Look out for volunteers directing marching units back to your buses.

    10. All music/loud sounds are to cease as group crosses Kapahulu Avenue to avoid disturbing the animals of the Honolulu Zoo, per city ordinance.

    11. Do not approach horses for both participant and horse safety.

    *. The King Kamehameha Celebration Floral Parade Committee reserves the right of placement of all parade units. Placement will be determined by royal Hawaiian protocols, as well as for the most pleasant, safe, smooth running parade possible.

  • Parade Route and Staging:

    • Drop off site, Punchbowl and King Street
      • Marshal in front of the Kalākaua Post Office on Richards and Merchant Streets
      • Be mindful of Parade Volunteers and check-in with Parade Official

    • Parade will start at King and Richards Street fronting the ‘Iolani Palace
      • Be mindful of Parade Starter’s instructions

    • Upon passing the statue of King Kamehameha I, you will not be allowed to stop for any reason.
      • Stopping will slow the rest of the Parade down
      • We ask that tribute to the King be made on the move with song, chant or gesture. At no time, should anyone break away from your unit to approach the statue

    • Turning right onto Punchbowl, passing Kawaiahaʻo Church

    • Left onto Ala Moana Boulevard
      • Please be mindful of traffic as Parade will cross over from the mauka lanes to the makai lanes to allow for cruise ship traffic.
      • Parade will marshal on Punchbowl to close gaps between units. Take direction from Parade staff.

    • Right onto Kalākaua Avenue

    • Ending at Queen Kapiʻolani Park
      • All Parade participants must adhere to City & County of Honolulu noise ordinances regarding the Honolulu Zoo. No music, horns or any other audible sounds beyond Kapahulu Avenue.

    KING KAMEHAMEHA CELEBRATION COMMISSION

    ALL DECISIONS ARE FINAL

    Each individual participating in the 2023 King Kamehameha Parade ("Participant") shall defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the State of Hawaii, the Department of Accounting & General Services, the King Kamehameha Celebration Commission, and their officers, employees, and agents from and against all liability, loss, damage, cost and expense, including all attorneys' fees, and all claims, suits and demands therefore, arising out of or resulting from the acts or omissions of the Participant in this event. Participant recognizes that there are inherent risks associated with participating in this event and chooses to participate with their own free will.

    I hereby authorize the Commission to use the photographs and video footage taken of our organization, and name, for use in the Commission’s printed publications, ads, website and any form of media. I acknowledge that since our participation in publications, media and websites produced by the Commission is voluntary, I will receive no financial compensation. I further agree that our participation in any publication and website produced by the Commission confers upon me no rights of ownership whatsoever.

  • IMPORTANT:  A separate release form is required for each person participating in the parade. In addition, all minors will need to have a parent or legal guardian, complete a separate release form found on our website.  All release forms, participant and minor, must be submitted prior to Parade start in order to participate.
