    Covid-19 Response Memo
  • The global spread of COVID-19 has resulted in unprecedented disruption to our daily lives, on both personal and professional fronts. We are in Stage 3 of the lockdown as mandated by the government. During this stage only a limited number of persons are permitted on the premises in compliance with the social distancing requirements. In an effort to minimise risk of exposure to Covid-19 and minimise the spread of the virus, the government requires each workplace to comply with the following measures:

    • Social distancing of 1.5 metres between each person is observed both inside and outside of the workplace.
    • Social distancing floor markers at work-stations should be maintained and adhered to at all times, in compliance with the social distancing requirements for both inside and outside the restaurant.
    • Mask to be worn at all times.
    • Reusable Cloth Masks shall be provided to each restaurant staff to be worn on the way to, from and during work. Reusable face masks must be washed thoroughly before next use. These face mask are part of the uniform and no unapproved masks shall be worn at the BOH of the restaurant.
    • No employee, customer, supplier or service provider shall be allowed in the restaurant without the mask.
    • Face Shields and masks to be worn at all times by employees who come into contact with delivery riders, customers, suppliers, etc in the course of their duties.
    • All front counter staff are to remain behind the Acrylic Counter Screen at all times when customers on the front counter.
    • All interaction with customers, suppliers, delivery riders and service providers are to always be contactless in accordance with the guidelines set by KFC and the Covid-19 OHS.
    • All employees are required to comply with the KFC policy and procedure of washing and sanitizing hands at all times during the course of executing their duties.
    • Personal hand sanitizers are provided for employees for personal use as and when they travel to and from work.
    • Hand sanitizers are provided for use in stores for customers, suppliers, service providers and delivery riders at store’s entrances and drive thru windows.
    • Each employee shall agree to temperature screening as they enter the premises in compliance to KFC temperature screening guidelines. Access will not be allowed to anyone refusing temperature screening.
    • Additional temperature screenings may be carried out at any point during the workday.
    • Every employee’s fitness to work, health concerns and health and safety requirements should be established as per Employee Health Checks guidelines.
    • Lockers, staff rooms and toilets to be kept clean and sanitize after each use as per KFC cleaning guidelines.
    • Only one team member at a time will be allowed in the staff change rooms/toilets.
    • All employees are required to undergo Covid-19 Training and preparation before work commencement. A Work Readiness Survey is to be completed for each employee.
    • If you are feeling ill or suspect that you have been exposed to Covid-19 and you are scheduled to work, you need to report it to your RGM, ahead of time for replacement purposes, and should not come to work.
    • You might have to quarantine yourself for 14 days before returning to work. You need to be cleared of any infections and related symptoms by a health professional before returning to work. Where it is suspected you fell ill as a result of Covid-19 at work there are benefits such as Memorial relief, COIDA and UIF.
    • If you have any underlying / chronic illness, you are not to return to work till further notice. You are urged to inform your RGM of any illness (this information will be treated confidentially
    • All Restaurant Managers and ASL to complete Covid-19 Training Course within 10 days of returning to work.
    • Delivery riders, suppliers and service providers are required to do temperature screen as they enter the store in compliance to KFC screening standards.
    • Employees who are over 60 years and those that are able to work from home should work from home to minimise face-to-face meetings and exposure to infection.
    • Kitam Group’s COVID-19 compliance officer is Mrs. Maleshoane Mthembu, who will be responsible for ensuring:

    o Compliance with the workplace Covid-19 response plan.

    o Conduct risk assessment of exposure to COVID-19 infection and control measures in all restaurant, with involvement of the risk committee and health and safety committee

    o Empower and Inform the Restaurant Teams on wellness updates, information, support, counselling and coping mechanisms available to assist the team as they migrate through this period of uncertainty, both for themselves and those around them.

    o RGM's shall be appointed as compliance officers for their respective restaurants to ensure compliance to the Covid-19 response strategy, guidelines and regulations.

I note that all of the above is subject to change as further announcements and regulations are made by the government as well as any other correspondence / directives received, and this might change at short notice. I understand that failure to comply means that I pose a danger to myself and to my fellow employees and may result into disciplinary action which may include dismissal.
