Thank you for your interest in adopting from the Lancaster County Animal Shelter! By adopting a pet from the shelter, you are helping not just the one you adopt, but you are also freeing up space to allow another pet to have a safe place to rest until they can be adopted, too.
Our adoption process is as follows:
1. Complete and sign this Adoption Application
2. You do NOT have to be a Lancaster County resident to adopt from our facility.
3. Adoption fee of $100 (applies to ALL dogs, no exceptions) covers spay/neuter, rabies vaccine, microchip, age-appropriate vaccines, de-wormer, and heartworm test.
4. We REQUIRE that any heartworm positive dog that is adopted be treated for heartworm within 30 days of adoption (proof or treatment sent to us when completed). Dogs that test negative for heartworm will need to be put on monthly heartworm preventative immediately upon adoption.
5. NOTE: All of our dogs come from Animal Control as strays or owner-surrendered/unwanted pets. We recommend getting your newly adopted dog to see a veterinarian soon after adoption for a basic exam.
6. If you already have a dog, we recommend you bring them with you to the shelter to meet any dog you wish to adopt to make sure they will get along together. Note that your current pet must be up-to-date on vaccines.
