Need-based financial aid is made possible through generous donations from individual Hawaii Youth Symphony donors and the Michael Nakasone Legacy Fund In Honor of Youth Symphony II by Olivia de Jane.
Although financial aid awards come in a variety of amounts, depending on demonstrated need, families should expect to pay at least 50% tuition. HYS does not make any full-tuition awards. Financial aid funding is limited, and we are unable to make awards to every applicant.
All neighbor island students are eligible for travel assistance (in the form of reimbursements) to in-person programs. HYS does not provide travel assistance or financial aid to non-Hawaii residents.
Applications are reviewed by the President and the Financial Aid Committee, and all decisions are final. Applications must be received by September 1, 2020. No incomplete or late applications will be reviewed.
Students who receive financial aid awards are expected to complete the school year/program they received funding for and remain in good standing with HYS. Any financial aid awardee who is expelled from HYS for disciplinary reasons, or who is unable to complete the school year/program, will be responsible for paying back the award to HYS.
