Some helpful advice
🔲Training should be FUN for both of you
🔲Training will exercise their brain
🔲Training positively will build a great relationship between you
🔲Training should be based on POSITIVE rewards
NEVER punish your dog – this will cause him to be frightened of you
SHOW your dog what you are trying to teach him – NEVER physically force him
🔲Be patient and keep commands consistent
🔲Don’t let him get bored, keep training sessions short
🔲Never ‘train’ in a busy area, only begin to build up the distractions gradually once he knows the commands really well
🔲Force free training
new up to date training is about training rather than making your dog do things using simple techniques ,keeping your dogs interest and it being fun for you & and your dog.
such things as dominating your dog just doesnt work, shouting, tapping & smacking, stones in a jar and other forceful equipment creates a negative relationship and your dog wont 100% trust you and it will affect your bonding and relationship that you have with them.
'weve all smacked and shouted at our dogs especially older generations as that was how we were taught to train many years ago. we need to learn to be kinder and use effective training and learn from our mistakes than use negative training. Bad training techniques cant be used while completing these courses as would it make them ineffective. Studies show forced methods lead to unwanted behaviours.
🔲Rewards based training.
using a high reward treat ONLY such a tiny pieces of chicken makes your dog keen to do the task and with lots of praise creates a relaxed positive training enviroment. the use of cheap packet treats tends to make your dog less keen to repeat tasks losing focus quicker and can cause a bloating, stomach upset or sickness especially in the 1-1 and in class as sessions are longer than when you are training at home plus possible travelling distance (travel sickness)and anixety to consider. feed them less meals to compensate on the day. Evening sessions reccomend a snack rather than dinner. please dont bring treat packets to training.
I reccomend low fat grated cheese, sausage (sliced thinly .then cut into 3 pieces), tiny bits of chicken, cannot stress very very small pieces.
As the training develops and they do tasks easily, different treats can be used and more praise less treats but not for a few months at least.

🔲Time
You will need to ensure that you train with your dog daily , all you need is 2-3 minutes , while your dinner is cooking or your waiting for the washing machine to finish, it doesnt need big chunks of your time but all the family and anyone involved with your dog must train, 1-1 family sessions are highly welcomed with your trainer- if you dont do this with some effort your dog will not be training effectively and you will be wasting your money. I’m only here for part of the journey. This 16 wk course will give you a lifetime of training for your dog.
🔲Dogs brain
Understanding your dogs brain , it doesnt work like ours and they dont think with pack mentalality or dominace to how we think they do.
when we ask something of them , we expect instant results yet they need time to think about it and we by this point are annoyed and cross and repeating too quickly for them to understand. so Take your TIME - WAIT until you try again .
🔲life skills
*Handling
handling is very important, some dogs might be super sensitive on their feet or their might be an area we dont touch, thinking ahead to claw trimming or an injury your dog needs to be used to being handled and when a dog is feeling uncomfortable, touching the right place in the right way is vital.
*Body language
Learning body language is so very important not only for your dog to know how they feel but for other dogs, you can help with aniexty and stop agression taking that one step too far. I will show you different parts of the body and what they mean, what to look for, how to understand your dog. we are pretty much oblivious to how dogs see their world and miss so much. you will have pictures to look at and email with various attachements along with a quiz.
