Hālau Holomoana is a youth leadership and ocean-based careers development program grounded in Hawaiian voyaging traditions and culture. If you love the ocean and want to consider a career on the water, this program might be for you!
Hālau Holomoana is an intensive extracurricular program consisting of over 180 hours of instruction in the following: sail training, Hawaiian voyaging history and protocol, introduction to maritime and ocean-based industries, college and career counseling, field trips to maritime companies, mentorship and networking with industry leaders, Native Hawaiian mariners, and MORE!
Due to Covid-19, we have adjusted the curriculum and schedule to provide the safest environment possible for everyone. This year's cohort will be open to Oʻahu youth in grades 10-12, with a preference to Juniors and Seniors. The program will be a hybrid of virtual and in-person learning.
Your commitment to this program is very important and requires full participation. General requirements are being present for all virtually learning and in-person training, completion of a cultural perpetuation project, completion of a leadership project, and participating in monthly 1:1 meetings with our College and Career Counselor.
Hālau Holomoana is limited to 15 students and thus is a highly competitive program. After your application is reviewed, an interview will be conducted either in person or on a virtual platform. High School transcripts, school schedules, class schedules, and grades may also be requested. *However, we encourage all to apply and our decision isn’t based on getting good grades. Your interest, commitment, and motivation is key!
