Every year our church membership selects officers to serve on the Session and the Diaconate. A Nominating Committee comprised of three elders, two deacons, and two at-large members of the congregation will meet in the coming months to discern whom to recommend to the congregation to serve as officers for the incoming class of 2024.
Please give careful and prayerful consideration about whom you believe God might be calling to serve as an officer in our church. Those called should be persons of strong faith who are dedicated to discipleship and service within the community of faith.
Any confirmed member of the church, regardless of age or years of membership, is eligible to be considered. They may be previously ordained to either office, or this may be their first time serving the church through ordained leadership. Session has also approved this year the inclusion of high school youth, ideally rising sophomores or juniors, who would serve a two-year term.
The Diaconate carries out the active ministry of the church. Deacons chair and lead all of the committees that oversee our various ministries. Deacons have the responsibility for overseeing the day-to-day ministry of the church. Former Elders may be included in those called to serve as Deacons.
The Session is the council for the congregation, and it holds responsibility for maintaining oversight of all aspects of the church’s mission. It does this through focused prayer, discernment, and strategic visioning that seeks to align First Presbyterian Church with God’s will.
On the next page is space for you to suggest the names of church members who have particular gifts of leadership suited for either or both of these offices.
