  • Please note that the teachers and director decides best placement for the classes and it is possible for dancers to move classes half way through the year. Summer Dance classes are based on the number of students interested.

    Highland 1: Intro and Foundations

Minimum age of 3 1/2. No previous training required. Emphasis is on basic movements and positions, with an introduction to the dances.

    Highland 2: Continued Foundation

Any age. Previous training is required. This class is aimed for continuing students with emphasis on new steps, full dances, and technique.

    Beginner

Any age. Having mastered the Fling, Sword, and Lilt is a requirement. This class is aimed for continuing students with emphasis on new steps and dances (ex: Flora and S.T), and technique.

    Advanced Pre-Premier

Any age. Having reached or will be soon reaching the Novice level is a requirement. This class is aimed for continuing students who know the 5 basic dances as well as 2-3 other dancers. Emphasis is on technique for previously learned full dances and learning new steps and dances to prepare them for more advanced classes.

    Intermediate/Premier 1

Any age. Having reached or is approaching the Intermediate and/or Premier level is a requirement for competitive dancers and having learned the necessary dances at these levels (for recreational dancers) is a requirement. This class is aimed for continuing students, with emphasis on technique for previously learned full dances.

    Advanced Premier

Any age. Having reached the Premier level is a requirement. This class is aimed for continuing students, with emphasis on technique for previously learned full dances. Most dancers in this class are attending competitions on a regular and semi-regular basis, and are training for provincials.

    Premier Competitive

Dancers must be enrolled in their respective category class to join the competitive class. This class is aimed for competitive students only and for those doing provincials, and emphasis is placed on the competition dances. Any competitive dancer must do this class along with their regular class.

    Choreography

For any dancer in the Beginner and above classes. This class runs on a weekly basis in preparation for Dance Quest (at the teacher's discretion), Highland competitions which have choreography, and this class will be used when recital is approaching. If there is a high volume of interest in this class, the class will be divided into two: a junior class and senior class.

    Summer Dance

Summer dance is open to all dancers. Dancers who plan on competing in June and July must do summer dance or schedule alternative dance lessons if needed. Summer dance classes are based off of who wishes to dance in the summer and class times are again based off of the number of dancers.

IF at any point classes are unable to be in person due to COVID-19, they will occur at the same time (if possible) via Zoom. We were successfully able to continue classes from March to June 2020, and work with dancers and parents where they are at during these difficult times.

  • To Read and Sign:

DRESS CODE: Dancers are to wear tight fitting clothing such as a body suit or tanktop and shorts (preferably black in color). Dancers are also required to wear white knee socks and dance shoes (either highland or black ballet shoes) for most classes unless the teacher states otherwise. Hair should be pulled back and out of the face. A water bottle is suggested to be brought to class.

ETHICS:  At Forever Highland and in New Brunswick, there is an ethical code of respect where dancers of all ages are to respect their teachers. We ask that our dancers respect our teachers and other students during class and all other events, as we are aiming to create a happy and healthy atmosphere. We also expect our older dancers to be good role models for all of the younger ones that they come in contact with during their time involved with this sport. If there is a concern at any time about any aspect of FHDS, dancers are to speak to their teacher or the director in person if possible. This is especially for dancers who are in High School. If the situation has not been resolved to the fullest capacity, parents can contact the directer herself to resolve the issue. Any issue that is not resolved, the director herself will bring such issue to the Ethics Committee with email threads, conversations had, and messages sent.
