Best Use of Materials: Stone, Glass, Tile, Wood, Mirrors and more
Materials make a difference when it comes to creative design. Whether you use high-end or more modest sources, show how you apply different building materials to make a design statement. We’re looking for fireplaces, focal-point walls, backsplash ideas and more.
Great use of lighting can add dimension and elevate a room’s design. Show how you use layers of light and focal-point fixtures to add drama as well as utility.
What’s underfoot sets a theme for the home. Highlight your best use of wood, tile, LVT, laminates and more to make a design statement.
Showcase how you’re pushing the boundaries when it comes to modern design. We’re looking for a variety—high end to more affordable solutions.
Historic Renovation or Restoration (50 years or older)
Whether you’re working on a century-old four-square or a 60s colonial, show how you’ve transformed an older home with today’s modern amenities. Get creative with spaces—think attics and basements in addition to kitchens and living areas.
Room Remodel/Before & After
Readers LOVE a good makeover. Show how you’ve transformed any space in the home. And we mean anything—garages, basements and wine cellars as well as kitchens, baths and bedrooms are all in play here.
Classic looks never go out of style. Show how you’re relying on the classics in any genre—a rural brick-red farmhouse was the winner last year.
Whether it’s on a lake, a mountain or in the woods, we want to see the best of the best in vacation homes. They can be in or out of state. We’re looking for a mix of projects and a variety of price points.
Whether it’s adding curb appeal or creating a backyard oasis, landscaping helps perfect any home environment. Show us your new projects, makeovers and more, with a focus on landscape design.
Horticulturalists and home gardeners alike, here’s your chance to show off your best perennial and annual beds—and maybe even the veggie plot. Highlight why the garden is worth a spotlight.
Deck, Patio, Porch, Pool
Outdoor living has become even more popular over the past few years. What have you created to enhance your clients’ outdoor experiences for entertaining as well as everyday enjoyment?

Primary, hall or powder baths are all options in this category. Show what’s on trend with colors, finishes, cabinetry, storage and more.
Classic, traditionaal and modern dining rooms are an enduring feature in many homes. Show us your best one. In addition, these days, some of those spaces are used as entertainment zones—whether a separate room or a space in an open plan on a big kitchen island. How have you shaped your dining/eating area to serve as a friend- and family-friendly space?
Large Kitchen (201+ square feet)
The heart of the home, kitchens are deservedly one of the biggest investments. We want to see your best examples of new construction and remodels that highlight the latest trends in design, finishes, storage, appliances and more.
