What is a Torah Aliyah? (Torah Aliyot for plural)
A Torah Aliyah is an honor bestowed upon a person (or group of people) chosen by the b'nai mitzvah family.
What does a Torah Aliyah entail?
A Torah Aliyah entails chanting one Hebrew blessing before the Torah reading and one Hebrew blessing after the reading. The honorees stand on the bimah while the Torah is being read. The clergy will direct you on where to stand. Knowledge of Hebrew is helpful.
