We are very excited to welcome you back to our Circus Studio and are working hard to ensure our studio is as safe as possible for our students and teachers. Whenever possible, we not only meet guidelines but do our best to follow or go above and beyond safety recommendations. We care about our circus community and ask that students in turn also care for the studio and its teachers and staff. We are grateful for your continuing support and appreciate your understanding, cooperation and personal responsibility in keeping the studio and each other safe.
Covid-19 Policies:
The nature of a disease such as Covid-19 makes it impossible to guarantee anyone's health in our studio and we are reopening with the understanding that sudden and abrupt changes could interfere with our programming again. We are mitigating and reducing risk based on guidelines from Health Canada, the Government of Alberta, and City of Calgary. We are taking various measures that will change as the situation changes but it is impossible for us to remove risk entirely.
New Class Policies:
- Equipment is single person use only in a session
- Maximum 5 students in the studio at a time for Aerial classes and maximum 10 students for other classes; the studio may and will further cap non-aerials classes at less than 10 students at its discretion and to adhere to guidelines
- Floor will be marked to assist minimum 6 feet distancing; students will be asked to stay within their marked areas while attending class
- Studio doors will be open during class to promote air flow
- Space outside the studio will be marked to assist required physical distancing
- We are unable to teach partner or trio work at this time
- Instructors will still engage in appropriate contact as a necessary aspect for safe skill development. However when able contact will be avoided completely, or to the maximum extent possible. In most cases, instructors will have their own equipment on which to demonstrate, or they may not demonstrate or use other means of teaching and communicating.
- When instructors need to touch the equipment, such as for rigging, safety reasons or to be able to continue the class, they will sanitize hands thoroughly before and after handling equipment, as well as wear protective gear as is possible.
- Studio props will not be used until further notice; students may not bring their own props unless specific prop has been approved by the instructor
- Increased daily cleaning, as well as cleaning of all high-touch surfaces in between classes including apparatus
- No additional persons will be permitted in the studio, for example parents or onlookers. The viewing area is closed to all students, parents and public
- If you start to have symptoms of Covid-19, or you or your child had close contact with a known or suspected case of Covid-19, please follow isolation guidelines at: https://www.alberta.ca/isolation.aspx
- If you or your child have been infected with Covid-19, clearance from a doctor is required prior to returning to activity. Clearance must also specifically address that the student no longer poses any infection risk to their community and that student has recovered to safely participate in exercise
- If you or your child is ill, please notify us immediately
- If a student refuses to follow any policy they will be asked to leave
- If the student or guardian willfully or intentionally violate the policies, the studio has the right to suspend the student without credit or refund
Before class:
You will be required to sign a new waiver and the Covid-19 and student policies before your first return to the studio.
Although we are a private studio and space, we still request students to wear masks when entering the space, and to continue wearing a mask as they are able when not on the equipment. Please remember to bring your own mask.
Students will enter the studio at the time of their class, no earlier than 5 minutes prior to class start time. Please remain outdoors (or in your car) and maintain physical distance until the instructor lets you in for your class.
You must come ready for class in your workout clothes, the bathroom cannot be used as a change room. Please leave excess items, including change of clothes for after your class, at home or in your car.
Come with your own full water bottle (or an extra if you tend to refill). Ensure your water bottle can be sealed and will not spill.
Use the toilet at home and avoid going to the bathroom during your class as is possible.
We will not offer shared rosin or chalk; students are responsible to bring their own rock rosin, or chalk as is appropriate for the apparatus. Spray rosin is not permitted on fabric apparatus, unless it is your own equipment and with instructor approval.
Contactless drop-off: only registered students are permitted to enter the building (no parents or visitors). Staff will allow students in one at a time.
During class:
Though we are very happy to see each other, please refrain from hugs, high-fives or other such physical contact upon arrival and during class. Waves, air-hugs from a safe distance, and practicing the lines and shapes of our beautiful aerialist arms and fingers are suggested alternatives.
You will be given hand sanitizer upon arrival, and will wash your hands prior to beginning your training and after you have completed your training. In some cases you may also be asked to sanitize your feet.
Shoes will be placed in a designated spot immediately upon entering the studio; socks will be required when entering the studio and when not working on aerial equipment.
The rest of your belongings (outer coat, purse etc.) with the exception of your water bottle will be placed in marked shelves with spacing in between. Please keep contents inside your bag including technology such as mobile phones.
One person will be in the bathroom at a time to wash their hands. Bathroom door will be kept open; please avoid touching the door and minimize touching surfaces as much as possible. In the event that you need to use the bathroom beyond hand-washing, wash hands before closing the bathroom door, after you touch the door/handle, and before you open the door.
Everyone in the studio will maintain minimum 6 feet distancing unless closer contact is necessary (such as executing a rescue).
After class:
You will be asked to clean your equipment and mat at the end of class.
Wash your hands.
Students will exit the building promptly and within 5 minutes of class end time.
Classes are staggered with time intervals for class changeover, reducing and controlling traffic in and out of the studio, and to allow for staff cleaning of high touch areas in between each class.
In addition to rigorous procedures being implemented, we encourage students to return home and shower to reduce risk of transmission that may occur as a result of use of any common items, objects or equipment.
Student Policies:
Lost and found: The studio is not responsible for items that are lost, stolen or missing. However if we find a lost item, we do our best to keep the item for a short time when possible so students have a chance to recover it. We do not guarantee that an item will be kept or for any amount of time. With the new environment, items left at the studio will be disposed of daily, including bottles and bags. Please do your best to keep track of your items and not leave anything behind.
Make up class: It is your responsibility to make sure you can attend all the classes in the term. If you need to miss a class and there is a similar class is available, you may request if we can arrange for you to take a make up class. Your attendance is your responsibility and make up classes are not guaranteed. Furthermore with the new restrictions, class availability is further limited and it will be much more difficult to book a make up class. Please ensure that you register for the class that you will commit to.
Make up cancellation: In the case we are able to accommodate you for a make up class and you need to cancel, you must do so with minimum 48 hours notice. Otherwise, the class will count as a make up whether or not the student attends. Please note we may not be able to arrange another make up class, even if you cancel according to the policy.
Late policy: Students will not be given a make up or credit of any kind for a class that they were late for or missed due to being late. The instructor may still permit you to attend class if you are late, at their discretion. Students will still be required to warm up appropriately and for an appropriate amount of time before they can continue with other elements of the class.
Our studio places a high priority on safety and safe behavior. Students will be asked to leave class immediately if they are deemed for any reason to be unsafe, demonstrating unsafe behavior, or compromising the safety of others.
