Even in the most hygienic, well ventilated, spacious kennels the possibility of a dog acquiring Kennel Cough exists. Kennel Cough can be acquired from your neighbor's dog, from a Champion show dog at a dog show, and from a veterinary hospital. Typically the start of an outbreak occurs with an asymptomatic infected dog, unknown to anyone, that acts as a source for other dogs in the kennel.
Many dogs will have protective levels of immunity to Kennel Cough via minor exposures to the infective organisms and simply will not acquire the disease even if exposed. Other dogs that may never have had immunizing subtle exposures will be susceptible to the bacteria and associated viruses and develop the signs of coughing and hacking.
If your dog starts coughing or sneezing after leaving our boarding facility or after an appointment, please let us know. It is important that we identify all animals that are being affected. Typically these dogs will have self-limiting illness (typically no intervention required) that resolves within 10-14 days, but some dogs do need to be treated with antibiotics.
If your plans change, please call to let us now the revised pick up date. We will collect prepayment for the additional boarding fees over the phone. Pets not picked up within 2 days of the date listed below pet will assumed o be abandoned. A certified letter will be mailed to the address below and abandonment proceedings will begin. There is a $30 fee for the letter.
