About Tzu Chi
The global Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation was established in 1966 by Venerable Dharma Master Cheng Yen, on the resolution to alleviate suffering through Tzu Chi core Missions of Charity, Medicine, Education, and Humanistic Culture, which later extended to International Relief, Bone Marrow Registry, Community Volunteering, and Environmental Protection. Over the years, Tzu Chi is committed to better social and community care, medical care, education, and insprining compassionate love in Taiwan and around the world. Tzu Chi holds several accreditations, including from the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and UN Environment Program (UNEP).
When Tzu Chi was first founded in the early days, Dharma Master Cheng Yen and 30 supporters started saving fifty cents each from their grocery allowance in a bamboo moneybox every day to help those in need. The humble beginning set the spirit of Tzu Chi Foundation across its Missions. We value the power of small and every individual effort.
