2024 Energy Video Competition Rules 

Specific Objective

The competition aims to achieve the follow objectives:

1. Raise Awareness about Belize’s Energy Efficiency Labelling Scheme (EELS) and allow for repeat use in the promotion of the EELS. 
2. Demonstrate how everyday actions and choices can contribute to climate action and a more sustainable future.   
3. Promote climate literacy by encouraging students to explore and understand the impact of energy use on climate change and how standards can support national and international efforts to mitigate climate impacts.  
4. Encourage innovative thinking by depicting and communicating ideas about energy efficiency and climate action in an engaging and accessible way. 
5. Inspire action by encouraging Belizeans to adopt energy efficiency practices and support the implementation of EELS.

2024 Energy Video Competition Rules 

High School Level:

Students will create videos demonstrating how the use of energy-efficient appliances (such as refrigerators, air conditioners, and light bulbs) can lower the energy costs of their school. This will include simple examples showing how using energy-efficient appliances, like LED light bulbs or energy-saving air conditioners, can save money on the school’s electricity bills and help protect the environment.  
 

2024 Energy Video Competition Rules 

University Level:

Students will create videos demonstrating how businesses can reduce their energy consumption costs by using energy-efficient appliances (such as refrigerators, air conditioners, and light bulbs). The videos should highlight businesses that have successfully adopted energy-efficient practices, focusing on both financial savings and environmental benefits, illustrating the cost savings associated with using energy-efficient appliances using data or simulations to show the potential return on investment.

Video Requirements:

Length: Videos should be between 30 to 90 seconds. This allows for the useage of  short-form content (such as TikTok-style videos) and more traditional edited videos. 
 
Format: Videos must be submitted in mp4 format to ensure compatibility across various viewing platforms.

Video Criteria:

Submission will be evaluated based on the following: 

1. Originality: The idea presented in the video should be original and not replicate existing content available online. 
    
2. Applicability: The video should clearly convey the importance of energy efficiency, making the message understandable and actionable for a broad audience. 
    
3. Creativity: The video conveys its message in a straightforward yet engaging manner, avoiding overly complex explanations. 
    
4. Economic and Environmental Impact: The video must illustrate the economic benefits and environmental impact of using energy-efficient appliances.  
    
5. Technical Quality: The overall quality of the video production, including sound, editing, and resolution.

2024 Energy Video Submission Day 

Submission Deadline:

All videos must be submitted by September 30, 2024. 
 
Judging Period: The panel of judges will evaluate submissions from October 7-9, 2024. Winners will be notified shortly after.
