    What Is JRC?

The Junior Repertory Company (JRC) of Dancers’ Workshop (DW) is a pre-professional dance company for highly dedicated students who strive to expand their technical, performing, and artistic dance ability.

  • Philosophy

Being a member of the Dancers’ Workshop Junior Repertory Company is a privilege that demands time, commitment, high-quality character, and leadership. DW has the best interest of each dancer in mind and expects each member to endeavor to reach their highest potential as a dancer, company member, and individual. Instilling high standards and excellence in class and rehearsal will result in professional work in performance and reflect your growth as an artist. We expect hard work, perseverance, consistency, and passion from each member. In return, we will create a challenging and positive experience in class, rehearsal, and performance. It is our mission to leave each JRC member with the tools to support a future in dance and the capacity to take on all their future endeavors.

  • Requirements

  • Eligibility

Students ages 12+ who have completed a full school year of both ballet and modern are eligible to audition for JRC.

Auditions. Due to COVID we will not be holding auditions in September for new members, we will arrange an audition for new members when we can do so safely. All returning members will be grandfathered into the company for the 20/21 school year.

Placement in JRC is not guaranteed and will be dependent upon: technical ability demonstrated in the JRC audition, level of commitment, and past behavior in DW curriculum and programs.

Apprentices – All new auditioning dancers who are accepted will be Apprentices to the company. All current apprentices will be notified when they are invited to join the full company at the discretion of the JRC director.

  • Absences

All absences must be communicated via email in advance to the Front Desk one hour prior for classes, two weeks prior for rehearsals.

    Absence Limit

Absences are counted by days missed, not per class. If a dancer misses more than 5 days, they must be made up, or the JRC member may be asked to step down from the company for the following session.

    Make-Up Classes

JRC may make up absences by attending a DW class at your level or lower on zoom or in person, or by attending a DW Open Program class. Make-up classes must be documented through the online Make-Up Form.

    Illness

Illness is the exception to the 5-absence limit. Even though these absences are excused, they must still be reported to the front desk via email prior to the class or rehearsal (see intro above). If you incur an illness that will keep you from dancing for more than three days, you must set up a meeting with the JRC Director.

    COVID Specific

Although COVID related absences are excused. We encourage any students who are quarantined or staying at home due to exposure to COVID to take Zoom classes during that time if they are able.

Please notify us immediately if you plan on traveling, if you have been exposed,  if you are showing symptoms, and/or have tested positive.

Dancers’ Workshop is committed to JRC students and we hope to maintain as many in-studio classes as possible. To this end, we expect all JRC students to be cautious and safe in their actions both at Dancers’ Workshop and in the community, to avoid the spread of COVID-19

    Rehearsal Absences

It is the responsibility of the absent JRC member to learn any material that was missed to be ready for your next rehearsal. If more than 2 rehearsals are missed, the company member may be replaced in the performance.

Absences two weeks prior to a performance date are prohibited and will result in that member being removed from the performance. If you know of an unavoidable obligation two weeks prior to a performance, it must be addressed with the JRC Director at least ONE MONTH prior to the performance dates.

    Warm-up classes

All warm-up classes are required if you are rehearsing or performing that day. If you do not attend warm-up, you will not be allowed to rehearse or perform that day. This is for your safety to ensure that you do not sustain injury.

    Dance Team

Absences for Dance Team members will be excused for competitions/ games/ performances ONLY. Any absences that are Dance Team-related outside of this will be counted against your allotted absences.

  • Injury Policy

The purpose of our injury policy is to ensure the safety and recovery of all participants and keep classes focused. Any injury that prevents participation in a class or rehearsal, must be emailed to the Front Desk (erin@dwjh.org ). Same procedure as absences.

If a dancer cannot take class due to injury or physical ailment (ie headache, cramps, recent injury)  students will be required to make up class at a different time.

If a dancer has a chronic or ongoing injury that requires modifications to the class (ie no jumping for sprained ankle). Students are welcome to take class, omitting the exercises that cause pain and instead doing PT exercises on the side.

    No Class = No Rehearsal
If a dancer is too injured to participate in class, he/she will also not be permitted to dance in rehearsals scheduled that same day. Dancing in subsequent rehearsals within the following days will be at the discretion of the JRC Director.

    Severe Injuries
If a dancer sustains an injury that requires that they not dance for an extended period of time, DW will make every effort to involve the student in classes, rehearsals, and performances in other ways. Any dancer with a severe injury must set up a meeting with the JRC and School Directors to discuss the dancer’s individual needs.

  • Conduct

All Company members must participate in DW programs as role models at Dancers’ Workshop, adhere to our conduct standards and policies, and must communicate with peers, fellow company members, apprentices, and all Dancers’ Workshop staff with courtesy and respect. JRC members are required to read the weekly JRC email newsletter and be responsible for any information contained within it.

    JRC Discipline System

There will be a 3 strike system implemented for negative behavior. If a student receives a strike, parents and students will be notified. After 3 strikes, a meeting will be arranged with the JRC and School Director and consequences will be discussed.

    Behavior that warrants a strike:

    Violation of policies and conduct
    Violation of dress code
Being late to class without notifying instructor/ front desk
Class interruptions and distracting the class
    Disrespecting faculty
    Disrespecting peers

    Possible consequences:

Removal from class - counted as an absence
    Removal from performance
    Removal from the company

Your signatures on this contract certify that you will maintain all conduct standards. Failure to maintain these standards will result in loss of Company status and forfeiture of tuition discount.
