On Wednesday September 16 from 3:00 to 4:00 pm ET, the Minister of Canadian Heritage, Steven Guilbeault, will be holding a virtual town hall with the Canadian screen-based production community to discuss the government’s post-pandemic recovery plan for the screen-based cultural industry.
In advance of this discussion, the Minister has invited individuals from across the industry to complete the short two-question survey below, to help drive the conversation during the town hall.
Survey respondents are encouraged to complete the survey, and propose recovery measures that meet some or all of the following five pillars that make up the framework that will act as a foundation for the government as it begins its post-pandemic recovery work.
- Foster the sustainability of the arts and culture ecosystem by ensuring more stable sources of revenues for organizations and better remuneration for artists, creators and cultural workers;
- Increase the demand for Canadian art, productions and cultural products;
- Increase the number of individuals from under-represented and equity-seeking groups who can earn a living from the creation and production of art and culture and participation in sport, including in management and leadership positions;
- Increase the number of people who live in Canada who practice a sport on a regular basis;
- Reduce the environmental footprint of the art, culture, heritage, and sport sectors.
QUESTION 1 - With the above recovery framework in mind, what are the top one or two most important actions the government can take to help the Canadian screen-based production sector recover from the pandemic?
