An ongoing contemplative practice (times of silence and wordless, thoughtless, imageless presence) is a foundational part of the inner work associated with the wisdom journey and is something, therefore, that should ideally be established prior to admission to the community. Please describe in detail (not simply by naming) your current contemplative practice – and, if you do not have such a practice, any steps in this direction you have taken in the past or are currently taking. 7. A careful, contemplative reading of Living Wisdom – 2nd Edition (Revised & Expanded) by David G. Benner is a prerequisite to applying for the program and is probably the best way for you to get a sense of goodness-of-fit with Cascadia at this point in time. Please provide a detailed account of your response to and interaction with this book. Agreement with everything contained in this book is definitely not required. However, this book does reflect the core of our shared understanding of the big picture of what wisdom is and some of what wisdom living involves. (350 words)*

8. Ideas and practices explored within CASCADIA will push most applicants intellectually, theologically, and spiritually. Readings will be drawn from such sources as evolutionary theology, cosmology, perennial philosophy, aboriginal spirituality, and depth psychology. While background in these areas is not necessary, what is required is openness to the contributions science and other religious traditions can make to wisdom. Please comment on how open you are to such broader vistas and any reservations or concerns you might have about engagement with them. (150 words)*

9. Ongoing interaction by means of the online communication platform used by Cascadia is the foundation of our community. In addition to the time required for the selected readings (approximately 3-5 hours per week), membership requires a commitment to make every possible effort to be present on Ryver at least once a week (1-2 hour week) and to participate in as many of the pre-scheduled, monthly Zoom hour-long video-conferences as possible. What frequency and amount of engagement with the program and other participants would you, on average, expect to be able to offer as an expression of your commitment to the group and your own growth and learning?
