• Wesleyan Service Scholars Application

  • The Wesleyan Service Scholars program is designed for Wesleyan students who are passionate about leadership and service. Students serve approximately six hours per week in a non-profit or civic organization in the community or through an on-campus service/leadership commitment (approved by a Center for Community Engagement & Leadership Development [CCE] staff person) to receive an annual and renewable scholarship of $2,000.   • Wesleyan Service Scholarship Application Checklist

    • Complete the three most impactful organizations requirement below.
    • Provide an essay (250 word minimum) answering the question: “Given unlimited resources of time and money, what would you do to make the world a better place?”
    • Provide one letter of recommendation from an individual not related to you and who was involved in your service and/or leadership work.
    • Complete and submit the Wesleyan Service Scholars Application by the priority deadline of February 1, 2021.
    • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (www.fasfa.ed.gov) by March 1, 2021.

    Applications will be reviewed by a committee. A few select slots are awarded based on the strength of the application. Additional spots will be available to students who enter into the final round through a virtual or in-person interview.

    Students are encouraged to apply to multiple scholarship opportunities, but please note that the Wesleyan Service Scholarship cannot be awarded in addition to an athletic or performing arts scholarship.

  • Three Most Impactful Organizations

    INSTRUCTIONS: Please list three organizations with which you were most engaged, and describe your role(s), involvement, number of years active, and total time commitment to the organization in the spaces below. An “organization” can be representative of a number of responses such as a specific high school club, community group, non-profit organization, church, mission trip, etc. Involvement should describe the events, experiences, conferences, service projects, and fundraisers that were completed as a result of your participation in the organization. Then, circle all years you were involved with that organization and provide your total hours committed over time. Please see the example below.

    EXAMPLE: Organization: National Honors Society      Role: Member

    Involvement: Organized a feminine hygiene drive; Volunteered at the local children’s festival with 300+ students in attendance; Attended the Impact Leadership Conference; Collaborated with others to update the organization’s bylaws; Served as a peer mentor to new students for 2 years 

    Years: 3           Time Commitment: 36 hours
