Dear Councillor,
My name is {fullName} and I am private landlord and I have rental property in your area. I am aware of the Council’s plan to introduce a Landlord Licensing Scheme in the County, I am concerned about this and I ask for your support in stopping the proposal. Some of my specific concerns are:-
- The Scheme will not deliver on the grandiose claims that the Council Officers make for it.
- The proposed licence fee, and associated costs of administering the scheme, will force me to put up rents by £5 per week.
- The scheme is bigger than any other in the country and covers a lot of tenants who have no problem with their area or their landlord.
- The Council already has powers available to deal with the few bad Landlords and Tenants. This scheme will just punish the good Landlords and good Tenants.
- Experience from schemes elsewhere has been ignored by Council Officers but their results show table topping rent increases (Nottingham & Bristol) and 117% increase in homelessness (Nottingham).
- The proposed scheme will have major implications that the Council have not budgeted for. These range from managing the additional homeless to supporting the massive increase in ASB actions that will be created. Funds raised by the Licencing Scheme cannot be used towards these increased costs.
Please do what you can to help me and others in the same position. Life is difficult enough at the moment and council officers seem determined to make matters worse.
Many thanks
