    . GENERAL INFORMATION 

    .

    ELIGIBILITY 

    To be an Instructor of Fab Academy program you need

    • To be a Fab Academy Graduate 
    • To pass the Instructor Application Process
    • To devote 20 to 25 hours weekly minimum  to instruct the course

    .

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    As a Fab Academy instructor you will be responsible for:

    • Mastering and mentoring the skills taught in the class
    • Providing adequate availability to assist your students
    • Participating in class preparation
    • Planning ahead for your lab to be ready for class topics
    • Timely local review and reporting on your students' progress


    You will be asked to "sign" this agreement by committing this file in the Node's repository.

    TAXONOMY 

    According to skills and experience, an Instructor can be:

    • Novice Instructor: a graduate, never instructed the course before
    • Junior Instructor:  instructed the course for 1 or 2 consecutive cycles
    • Senior Instructor:  instructed the course for 3 or more consecutive cycles
    • Mentor:  instructed the course for more than 3 cycles + has peer recognition as such + is an active member of the Fab Academy and Academany community

    It is important to understand that the Node's taxonomy is related to the experience of the Instructor, NOT the NODE. A physical space cannot hold experience, an Instructor can. 

    A Node run by a Novice Instructor needs direct Support from Guru/Mentor. This support is covered by Local Costs, and it should be added to the local cost amount.

    A Node run by a Junior Instructor needs soft Support from Guru/Mentor in the Evaluation processes. This support is covered by Central Costs.

    INSTRUCTOR APPLICATION PROCESS

    All Instructors must fill the form in order to be enlisted in the course.

    Experienced instructors don't need to go over an assessment process.

    ASSESSMENT

    NOVICE INSTRUCTORS  teaching the course for the first time will be reviewed by their peers to assess readiness.

    • Novice Instructors will be asked to submit a Motivation letter.  This letter should include some relevant and interesting insights about yourself, your technical skills, to prove that you are motivated. It must also include your Teaching Philosophy Statement.
    • Mentors  will review the Instructor Application to assess their suitability to offer the program > Application does not mean Acceptance automatically.
    • Mentors may require extra information or documents to ensure all the requirements are met, and may also require a personal Interview (Via online conference)
    • Mentors will advise on the status of the Instructor and the need or not for extra support.
    • MOU ( Memorandum of Understanding ): Upon acceptance, Instructors will receive an MOU stating the basic requirements of the program, which they must send back signed.

  • . NODE AFFILIATION .


  • INSTRUCTOR COST

    The Fab Academy tuition fee is variable depending on the Node. The price students pay for the course is comprised by Central Costs and Local Costs.

    Central Costs are fixed 2500$/€ and Local Costs are variable, decided by the node. The local cost must cover: materials, operations, access to facilities and Instruction.

    Unless the Instructor is employed by the Fab Lab / Institution that hosts the Fab Academy, and the economic arrangement is already set, a standard fees is assigned to Instruction: 1250USD per student for an expert Instructor.

    The Node is in charge of paying the Instructor's fees.

  • Communications between Instructors and with Central Coordination is through the email and GitLab issue trackers.

    Please provide an email that you check regularly.

  • . SKILLS & BACKGROUND .   

     

  • Instructors and Mentors have very different backgrounds and each has their own style, interests and "experiential wisdom" to transmit to students.

    Instructor's duty is to guide students on the Fab Academy path, imparting wisdom that will help them successfully complete the course.

    Instructing "How to Make Almost Anything" is a team effort, no one knows every facet of every area this is why we work as a team, using other instructors as resources.
