  • ABOUT THE FIESTA SCHOLARSHIP

  • Fiesta is a yearly non-profit festival that celebrates and educates the public on the diversity within the Latin American Countries represented in Alabama. Fiesta was also founded as a way to raise funds for deserving Latino students in Alabama and encourage them to succeed through higher education in the field of their choice. A portion of the proceeds from Fiesta’s yearly event goes toward funding the Fiesta Scholarship.

  • FIESTA SCHOLARSHIP INSTRUCTIONS/ ELIGIBILITY

  • To qualify for The Fiesta scholarship program, students must be at least one-quarter Hispanic/Latino. Hispanic/Latino is an ethnic category, not a racial category; students may be of any race. For purpose of the Fiesta scholarship fund, students must be from a family whose ancestors came from at least one of these countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama,Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, El Salvador, Spain, Uruguay, or Venezuela.

    • Be high school seniors who reside in Alabama or currently attending a university/college (​as long as the student is currently attending or enrolled in a college/ university institution and is not in the last semester of their senior year​).
    • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 and above.
    • Must be accepted to or attending a college or university. Preference will be given to those who apply in the state of Alabama. However, Alabama residents attending out of college or universities may apply.
    • Agree to collaborate with Fiesta, its sponsors and Board of Directors by permitting the use of your likeness and testimonials, as well as to participate in Fiesta activities and events as requested by the board.
    • Fully complete the Fiesta Scholarship Application Form (including a 500 word essay).
    • Submit a video no longer than 90 seconds that allows the Board to get to know you and your goals in a unique and personal manner.

  • I grant permission to Fiesta Birmingham and its affiliates to release all information regarding my verification of enrollment, financial aid, or other application-relevant concerns to the scholarship grantors of the scholarship program, as deemed necessary by Fiesta Birmingham. I also authorize the scholarship grantors to share this information, allow the use of my likeness and image for the purposes of evaluation, recruitment, public relations, possible employment, or any other related activity. I am aware that I might be required to participate in Fiesta as part of the fulfilment of my scholarship award, I understand that if I do not complete the requirements I might not receive the scholarship.

    Please submit a video no longer than 90 seconds that allows the Scholarship Committee to get to know you and your goals in a unique and personal manner. Please begin with your full name, your major and what school you are attending.  Items to consider adding:  why did you choose this major and why is receiving the Fiesta scholarship important to you.  Videos should be emailed to fiestabham@gmail.com and the format should be MP4.  To change your video format on iPhone follow these steps: Open Settings. Search for Camera and choose Camera Format.  Select Most Compatible instead of High Efficiency. The videos recorded on your iPhone will be saved in MP4 format.
