1. I understand the goals and mission of Palm Beach Purrs and, as a foster volunteer, agree to abide by them and represent this mission within the community on behalf of the organization. My commitment includes following Palm Beach Purrs foster care guidelines. This includes, but is not limited to:
- A commitment to keep my foster cat(s)/kitten(s) indoors and not expose them to other cats that have access to outdoors. NO OPEN WINDOWS IN ROOM WHERE KITTENS/CATS ARE STAYING! We have had kittens tear/push through screens and escape!
- A commitment to follow instructions with regard to medical care and complete all medications given on dates required.
- A commitment to keep detailed, dated medical records (which will be made available for adopters) if any were given to me after a vet appointment, and ensure that an up-to-date copy is also on file with the Foster Coordinator.
2. I understand that only the Palm Beach Purrs Foster Coordinator or our partner veterinarian has the authority to make exceptions/changes to program guidelines.
3. I understand that Palm Beach Purrs is the sole guardian of cats/kittens in foster care and that fostered cats/kittens must be returned to Palm Beach Purrs upon request. I understand that Palm Beach Purrs has the right to terminate this foster care agreement and relationship at will.
4. I understand that if I, as a foster parent, want to adopt any of my foster cat(s)/kitten(s), I must go through the standard Palm Beach Purrs adoption process. I also understand that I cannot send any of my foster cat(s)/kitten(s) to an adoptive home until the cat(s)/kitten(s) has been altered, the adoption process has been completed by a trained Adoption Counselor and the Foster Coordinator has been informed. Furthermore, I must have permission from the Foster Coordinator before sending my foster cat(s)/kitten(s) to another approved Palm Beach Purrs foster home.
5. I understand that foster cat(s)/kitten(s) need to be taken to approved Palm Beach Purrs veterinarians for any medical care. Palm Beach Purrs funds all medical care, and in the event of a medical emergency, after hours or on the weekend, approval is needed by the Foster Coordinator, and/or Adoption Center Directors, and only if the medical care is provided with a Palm Beach Purrs approved vet. I understand that if I choose to take my foster cat(s)/kitten(s) to a non-approved vet, or if I take my foster cat(s)/kitten(s) to an emergency veterinary hospital without prior approval, Palm Beach Purrs will not reimburse me for the expenses incurred. These expenses, however, can be considered donations to Palm Beach Purrs and may be tax deductible. Furthermore, any expenses incurred for supplies, such as cat litter, food, etc., are considered a donation and may also be tax deductible. I also understand that such expenses cannot be applied toward adoption fees should I adopt a cat(s)/kitten(s).
6. I understand that there is a possibility of health or injury risk when caring for cats. I also understand that pregnant women and people with suppressed immune systems need to be aware that a parasite sometimes found in feces could cause toxoplasmosis. Special care needs to be taken if such persons plan to come in contact with used litter pans. I will not hold Palm Beach Purrs liable for any injury or illness, whether to the animals or humans in my home, which may result from my foster activities.
7. I understand that my own pets should be kept away from new fosters for at least 10-14 days as new fosters can pose risks of parasites, ringworm or viruses that could be transferred to my pets with direct contact. I confirm my cats are current on their FVRCP anf FeLv vaccines and understand that I am assuming all risks to my pets should they not be updated and become ill from contact with a foster.
8. I understand that if I need to leave town during my foster period that I will give two weeks notice when possible to the Foster Coordinator.
9. In the event of an emergency, I will contact any of these persons to ensure the cat or kitten gets any emergency care needed: Kelley (561-308-9284), April (561) 707-9072, or Christina (863-873-8679). I understand that if I cannot reach any of the three, the only approved pet emergency center is MedVet Jupiter at 505 Commerce Way, Jupiter, FL 33478 (561-741-4041).
I HAVE READ AND UNDERSTAND THE ABOVE.
