The purpose of this survey is to assess INTEREST.
Completing this survey DOES NOT COMMIT your family to participating in the Dewey’s Store Fundraiser.
PURPOSE: The Band Booster Board would like to understand the interest level of band families in participating in this year’s Dewey’s Holiday Fundraiser Store. Here is some information on how this year’s store will likely operate:
WHAT: In-store shopping hours may be slightly different and more limited than last year. We are planning to implement new shopping options such as online/call-ahead orders, curbside pickup, and sidewalk sales to create a safer shopping environment. We will be prepared to pivot to all online/call-ahead sales if the situation warrants. We are also planning gift basket presales to local business offices.
We will closely monitor the ever-changing Covid-19 situation and will comply with all CDC, NCDHHS, and local safety guidelines for distancing, limiting capacity, and use of protective equipment, and we will implement additional measures as necessary. ALL WORKERS AND CUSTOMERS WILL BE REQUIRED TO WEAR MASKS AT ALL TIMES.
WHO: Band volunteers will staff shifts at the store. Students in grades 9-12 may work with an adult.
WHERE: Northwood Retail is generously donating the same operating space at Waverly Place, and we have received a warm and supportive welcome back by management and other store owners.
WHEN: Early November through December 24th, 7 days a week. Last year, we were open 10am- 7pm Monday-Saturday and noon-5pm Sundays with two shifts per day (one shift Sundays) and two people per shift . This year’s hours will be similar or slightly shorter and could be adjusted as necessary. As with all things Covid, flexibility is key! The store will be closed Thanksgiving Day and will close early Christmas Eve.
HOW: Worker responsibilities will be similar to last year with additional safety measures required. Throughout the day you will greet and help customers with purchases, run a register, restock items as needed, and provide gift wrapping services. At the end of day, you will conduct a partial inventory of select items, count money and prepare the deposit. Treasurers will come to retrieve money. Additional tasks will include extra cleaning protocols and potentially monitoring the number of customers in the store. A separate team of workers will prepare gift baskets.
SHIFTS & RATE: Shifts are 3-6 hours in length, two people per shift with equal job tasks, possibly a third person to accommodate increasing sales volume or safety needs. The shift rate credited to your band account will be $8 per hour. As with all shift fundraisers, credit earned by working at the Dewey’s store may only be applied to your band account.
If there are no band fees assessed this school year, 9th - 11th grade students may carry a credit balance into next year to apply toward 2021-22 band fees. SENIORS AND THOSE WHO CHOOSE NOT TO CONTINUE WITH BAND NEXT YEAR: Our non-profit status will not allow us to refund a credit balance for hours worked. If your account has a credit balance, upon graduation (or your final year of band), you will be asked to designate a place to transfer that credit - either to another student, to the Scholarship Fund, or to the General Fund.
If you currently have a credit balance, please consider working shifts at Dewey’s store this year to help fulfill staffing needs and benefit the General Fund. This is a great way to support the band at a time when it is much needed.
Now that you have all the information, please complete the initial YES/NO question and the follow-up question, including the potential shift interest fields below.
