• Bloom Kit Program

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." - Margaret Mead
  • What is the Bloom Kit Program? A volunteer or several volunteers can participate in the Bloom Kit Program. These volunteer(s) complete landscaping tasks in a North Charleston public garden for a minimum of twice per month.

Why should you volunteer? The gardens in North Charleston improve the quality of life for our residents, are educational, and are a sanctuary to local wildlife. Many visitors, both human and wildlife, enjoy visiting the gardens.

What do Bloom Kit volunteer sponsors receive for their service? Volunteer(s) will receive training on proper gardening techniques along with all of the supplies that are necessary to complete gardening tasks in the garden. Volunteer(s) are eligible for contests, prizes, and other awards that are offered through KNCB. Most importantly Bloom Kit volunteer(s) make our community more beautiful!

  • Service Agreement

During the term of this agreement, the volunteer(s) agree(s) to perform general garden maintenance of the butterfly garden at least twice per month.  The volunteer(s) responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    • Volunteer(s) will meet with KNCB staff for a 45 minute training session and to pick up bloom kit supplies before their first volunteer activity.  During this training, the volunteer(s) will select the area that they would like to maintain and proper gardening techniques will be demonstrated.
    • Volunteer(s) will work in the garden at least two times per month.
    • Volunteer(s) will be responsible for basic gardening tasks in their area to include: keeping the area weed-free by weeding, installing cardboard and pine straw as needed. Some other tasks may be removing dead flower blooms, securing vines to the arbors, removing litter and debris, raking, and any other tasks that may be requested by KNCB staff to enhance the beauty of the garden.
    • Volunteer(s) will inform KNCB staff of any improvements that should be made in the garden that will make it more appealing to the public, but that do not fall under the duties of the volunteer(s).
    • Volunteer (s) will submit the online post-event form and any photographs they took within one week after their volunteer event. We would like to include these photographs on our social media accounts.
    • Verification of hours (for school, work, community service, etc.) cannot be made by KNCB staff for the Bloom Kit Program as staff will not be present during the volunteer activity. Some schools will allow a parent or guardian to verify service hours for this activity.
  • Terms of Agreement

This agreement is effective for one year from the start date listed on the agreement under the volunteer’s signature. This agreement defines the terms under which Keep North Charleston Beautiful and the volunteer listed below enter into a maintenance agreement to be completed in a KNCB maintained community garden. If at any time the volunteer needs to terminate this agreement, the volunteer will immediately notify a KNCB staff member. Thank you for volunteering to make North Charleston bloom with beauty!
