It is no longer a question that our lifestyle choices affect daily health and more importantly, our long-term risk of developing chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Adopting healthy lifestyle habits becomes even more essential for Cancer Survivors due to the fact that some cancer treatments add additional risks for developing these chronic diseases.
This 8-week session is designed to empower the participant to adopt healthy lifestyle habits for optimal health. In a supportive group environment, each participant will identify those healthy lifestyle habits they wish to adopt, develop their own individual goals and strategies to reach those goals, and encourage each other along the way.
Week 1: Define Healthy Lifestyle. What does adopting a healthy lifestyle mean to you? What constitutes a healthy lifestyle? Why is living a healthy lifestyle important? Rate Healthy Lifestyle Habits - Which areas are strong? Which areas are a challenge?
Week 2: Goal Setting and developing strategies to overcome barriers to success.
Week 3: Planning – how does planning help us to achieve our goals? What are some ways you can plan for success?
Week 4: Nutrition – what role does nutrition play in a healthy lifestyle?
Week 5: Physical Activity – what role does physical activity play in a healthy lifestyle?
Week 6 & 7: Emotional well-being – how does our emotional well-being affect our health?
Week 6: Emotional well-being: Stress / Supportive environment/ positive self-talk
Week 7: Emotional well-being con’d: Finding Passion and Purpose
Week 8: Review goal from first class, rate progress. Has it changed? What goal(s) do you want to focus on moving forward?
