• Sound Walks & Talks with Dr Jesse Budel

    2020 Mental Health Week
  • Deep listening takes practice. This Mental Health Week join composer-performer and sound artist Dr Jesse Budel for a sound walk in Barmera to tune in and listen deeply to the environments we take for granted. There will be a sound walk on Saturday afternoon 10th October and on Sunday morning 11th October. Each sound walk will include: a briefing to learn more about sound and sound walks, a gentle quiet walk in a small group followed by a debrief about what you heard.

Jesse will also be giving a talk about the 2019 Riverland Biosphere Soundscape Lab on Saturday evening at Part of Things.

Book for one, two or all three activities here. These activities are provided at no cost to celebrate and support Mental Health Week.

  • You will be emailed confirmation of your booking.

Soundwalks will depart from Part of Things and the Saturday night talk will be at Part of Things (upstairs). Please arrive 10minutes prior to the starting time. Remember to wear comfortable shoes/clothes for the walk/s.

Walk/s and talk are all free to attend but if you love what Part of Things is doing and would like to make a contribution, please leave us a tip here.

  • Jesse is a composer-performer, sound artist and researcher working in metropolitan and regional South Australia. He recently completed a PhD at the University of Adelaide, where his research focussed on adapting the innovative field of soundscape ecology for creative practice, producing new sound art works responding South Australian ecosystems and soundscapes.  Over the past year, Jesse has been involved in several projects focussed on environmental sound around regional SA, including the Riverland Biosphere Soundscape Lab at Calperum Station and a residency between the Naracoorte Caves and Mt Gambier's Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre, both funded by Country Arts SA.
