Board Commitment and Expectations
Mission Statement:
The Watauga Arts Council (WAC) fosters a thriving, diverse, vibrant, creative community through arts advocacy, education, support, and inspiration.
Serving professional and emerging artists, WAC facilitates and provides a structure for arts initiatives that enrich the lives of artists, residents, and visitors alike.
Please review our Code of Conduct.
Please review our Board Member governance policies.
Our Board Members are expected to participate in the following ways:
- Attendance: Board members are expected to attend meetings regularly.
- Financial Support: To maintain WAC's "fully vested" status, Board members must contribute monetarily to the Arts Council each year of their membership. Please maintain this status to avoid being removed from the board.
- Length of Term: Board members serve three-year terms, which may be repeated up to two consecutive terms.
- Fundraising: Board members are expected to participate in fundraising and donor development. There are a wide variety of tasks through which this can be accomplished, both behind the scenes and publicly.
- Time Commitment: The average time commitment is approximately three to seven hours monthly, including board meetings. This will vary according to the individual’s chosen areas of responsibility and the season. Monthly Board meetings are typically no longer than 1.5 hours and occur on the same day and time each month. (Currently, the 4th Monday of every month from 6-7:30)
- Activities: All board members must participate in at least one of the organization's teams or committees.
- Policies: All board members must agree to the agency Code of Conduct and be aware of all WAC policies (which are to be provided in the nominating packet).
Should you have any questions about Board responsibilities and opportunities, please call The Executive Director or Board Chair at 828-264-1789 or 828-964-7233.
We value your contributions to the board and the organization and look forward to working with you.
