  • PRE-OP LAB WORK – GO FOR YOU BLOOD DRAW ONE (1) WEEK BEFORE YOUR PROCEDURE

    IMPORTANT PRE-ANGIO INSTRUCTIONS

  • Do not eat of drink anything after midnight the night before your procedure. Remember to take your heart and blood pressure pills with a few sips of water. A nurse will call you 2 days before the procedure to review these instructions.

    DIABETICS: Do not take your diabetes pills the day of the procedure. Do not take Metformin or Metformin containing medications the DAY OF & 2 DAYS AFTER your procedure. If you take insulin, check your blood sugar the morning of the procedures. If your sugars are higher than normal, take ½ your insulin. BRING YOUR INSULIN AND MEDICATIONS WITH YOU.

  • Blood Thinners:
    ELIQUIS – stop taking 48 hours prior to your procedure
    ASA (aspirin) – do not take on the day of procedure
    PLAVIX (Clopidogrel) – do not take on day of procedure
    WARFARIN (Coumadin) – should be stopped 5 days before your procedure. Discuss with Dr to see what alternate medication will be provided.
    Stop your Coumadin/Warfarin on Pt given instructions (Initials)
    PRADAXA – Stop 48 hours before or as instructed by your clinic Dr
    XARELTO – Stop 48 hours before or as instructed by your clinic Dr

  • If your kidney function is abnormal, MUCOMYST will be prescribed (NAC or Acetylcysteine). Take it 2 times per day starting the day before your procedure. You will also take it the day of and the day after your procedure.

  • Iodine allergy – If you are allergic to Iodine (fish or shellfish allergy applies as well), you will receive a prescription for 3 medications. Start these medications 24 hours prior to your procedure. Prednisone will be taken every 4 hours. Benadryl and Tagamet will be taken 2 times a day.

  • Expect to be at the vascular lab for at least 6 hours. The nurses will do a pre-op assessment, the procedure itself will take 60-90 minutes then you will be in recovery for approximately 3 hours. You will need someone to drive you home after the procedure and stay with you for the evening/night. If you are ill or not able to keep your procedure appointment for other reasons, please call the office and advise us ASAP. Wear casual, loose fitting clothes to the procedure. Please try to shave your groin area (both sides) prior to procedure. If there is any possibility you may be pregnant, please advise the office immediately. 661-324-4100
