• UK Display Gymnastics Championships Open Competition Information

  • Our classic open competition - choreograph your festival gymnastics routines to any theme and wow the judges! Categories for solo, duo and group entries as well as combined and whole club groups giving your school lots of entry opportunities.

    • All performances (with more than 1 gymnast) must adhere to the latest government social distancing guidelines/advice, as published on the date of the event.

    • To help us adhere to relevant government social distancing guidelines/advice in changing, holding and performance areas, a maximum of 20 performers for all group and showcase entries is permitted.

    • A gymnast cannot compete against themselves in any category (for example a club may enter several different group entries into one age category, but no gymnast can feature in more than one group per age category).

    Time Limits
    • The time limit for solo and duo entries is a maximum of 2 minutes.
    • The time limit for group entries is a maximum of 5 minutes.
    • The time limit for combined junior/senior group entries is a maximum of 5 minutes.
    • The time limit for whole club entries is a maximum of 7 minutes.

    Group Size Restrictions
    • Group Categories - Minimum group size 5, maximum group size 20.
    • Combined Junior/Senior Categories - Minimum group size 3, maximum group size 20.
    • Whole Club Categories - Minimum group size 5, maximum group size 20.

    Age Definitions
    • Gymnasts ages are set at the day of the event
    • Junior is aged 10 to 13 years
    • Senior is aged 14 years and above
    • Combined Junior/Senior is aged 10 years and above*
    • Whole Club aged 5 years to a maximum of 17 years**
    • Whole Club aged 5 years and above** 

    *Combined ‘Junior/Senior’ Group Categories - Combined group entries are designed to reflect that your club may have Junior and Senior aged gymnasts of a similar skill level, this now allows the opportunity to compete as part of a group together.

    **Whole club categories must include all applicable attending participants form each club

    Combined ‘Junior/Senior’ Group Categories
    - For 10 years and over
    - Minimum group size is 3
    - Routines entered must be different to “Whole Club Group” entries
    - Each group must consist of both Junior and Senior aged gymnasts 
    - For fairness, group split must always be weighted either equally or in the case of odd numbered groups in the favour of junior gymnasts by 1.

    5 Gymnasts - 3 Junior / 2 Senior
    6 Gymnasts - 3 Junior / 3 Senior
    7 Gymnasts - 4 Junior / 3 Senior
    8 Gymnasts - 4 Junior / 4 Senior
    9 Gymnasts - 5 junior / 4 Senior
    10 Gymnasts - 5 Junior / 5 Senior
    11 Gymnasts - 6 Junior / 5 Senior

    … and so on following same split rule. 

    Gymnasts may perform in a higher age range, but not in a younger one than their age. 

    Please note that if a Gymnast performs in an age range which does not cover their actual age (at your request) they will be unable to perform in another age category in any other group entry.

    Groups or individuals will be disqualified if they are found to be in the incorrect age group or have entered into multiple age groups.

    Judging Criteria

    Junior / Senior Scoring 
    • The technical execution of gymnastic tumbles and gymnastic elements - 20 points maximum
    • The quality in executing the routine. For group entries, the judges will also be looking for harmony within your group technique - 20 points maximum
    • Costume - 20 points maximum
    • The judges will be looking for choreographic variety and the suitability for the level of gymnasts. Also looking at originality and innovative choreography - 20 points maximum
    • Expression and personality of the gymnasts and the entertainment value of the performance - 20 points maximum 

    Combined Junior/Senior Scoring
    • Combined Junior/Senior sections will be judged on Junior / Senior scoring criteria as above taking into account the fact that the group is made up of two combined age groups. 

    Whole Club Scoring
    • Whole Club sections will be judged on Combined Junior/Senior scoring criteria as above, but also taking into account the fact that the groups may include younger primary performers when looking at technical aspects (i.e groups will not be underscored due to technical / quality or execution elements of younger performers). Please bear this in mind when designing choreography/elements for your younger gymnasts as part of your group. This means you can include your Primary level gymnasts without fear of deduction.

    Competitors will be judged on

    Technical Level of the Routine.

    • The gymnast(s) will be judged on the quality in their execution of the technique given to them throughout the performance. 
    • The gymnast(s) will be judged on the precision and sharpness throughout the performance. 
    • The gymnast(s) will be judged on the strength in movement which is consistent throughout the performance

    Quality in executing the routine and showing harmony in the group in technique for group entries 
    • The gymnast(s) will be judged on the quality in their execution of the technique given to them throughout the performance.
    • The gymnast(s) will be judged on the precision and sharpness throughout the performance. 
    • The gymnast(s) will be judged on the  strength in movement which is consistent throughout the performance 

    Artistic Interpretation and musicality of the gymnast(s) 
    • The gymnast(s) judged on the use of music to emphasise the choreography given to them. 
    • The gymnast(s) judged on the understanding of the artistic interpretation. 
    • The gymnast(s) will be judged on the level of synchronisation throughout the performance. 

    Choreographic variety to include suitability to the gymnast(s) and originality and innovative work 
    • The gymnast(s) will be judged on the choreographic variety throughout the performance and the number of memorable highlights throughout. 
    • The gymnast(s) will be judged on their use of unique material. 
    • The gymnast(s) will be judged on the choice suitability for the gymnast(s). 
    • The gymnast(s) will be judged on how its adapted for the gymnast(s) technical ability. 

    Expression and personality of the gymnast(s) and the entertainment value of the performance.
    • The gymnast(s) will be judged on the use of presentation / feeling throughout the performance. 
    • The gymnast(s)) will be judged on the level of understanding of movement and effect required for the performance. 
    • The gymnast(s)) will be judged on the level gained from this performance. • The gymnast(s)) will be judged on the level of grooming and quality of costumes

  • IMPORTANT: Entry registration and payments - All entry fees must be paid at time of entry, once you have completed and submitted your online entry form(s), our staff will review and check your entries and then contact you (within 3 working days) via your preferred contact method to complete your payment.

    You are not considered officially registered until we have received your online entry form/s AND corresponding PAYMENT IN FULL.  All entry fees are non-refundable.  Amendments can be made to entries up to 8 weeks prior to the event.
