Title: An Introduction to Supporting Siblings
Fee: ASK members - FREE, non-ASK members - CHF25
This workshop is for:
Parents of children with learning differences and special educational needs, who want to know more about supporting the siblings of the child with special needs.
What participants will gain:
In many areas of support being offered to families who have a child with special needs, most often the sibling support is always overlooked. Growing up with a brother or sister who has special needs can pose some unique challenges especially for some children and young adults who themselves may need the attention of the parents. Some of these children and young adults may grow up to be extremely sensitive and tolerant adults. Some grow up harboring resentment that may create a long-lasting impact on the family dynamics and harm to the child with special needs who may need support from the siblings after the parents are long gone.
This workshop will give parents an insight into siblings' needs and experiences and offers ideas on how to give the siblings the attention they need and to avoid building resentment to the detriment of the child with special needs.
