Parking at Capistrano Valley High School is a privilege. Provided there are enough physical spaces on campus, qualifying Seniors and Juniors will be given first priority to obtain a parking permit during designated purchase dates. If there are any spaces available, Sophomores who qualify will be part of a lottery run by the administration. Parking availability is on a first-come basis, it is not guaranteed that any student will receive a spot in the upper or the lower lot. Seniors and Juniors are eligible to apply to purchase parking permits provided they meet the below stated academic qualifications, completed a safe driving presentation, do not have a behavior contract step 2 or higher, do not have unserved discipline hours, have a valid driver’s license, current vehicle registration, auto insurance and must show the receipt of purchase. Students must park in designated student lots (upper and lower lot), and not in the staff lots, gym area, or behind the auto shop.
Students with a failing grade on his/her most recent grade report (6 week, 12 week or semester) WILL NOT qualify to purchase a parking permit. Students may NOT use a summer school grade or other program (Access, Saddleback, online, etc.) to make up a failing grade in the previous semester in order to qualify for a parking permit. Students who have a failing grade at the semester grade report may become eligible at the 6 week or 12 week grade report if they do not have a failing grade. Students will be allowed to purchase a permit on a probationary status to be reviewed at the next grading period. If a student becomes ineligible due to grades they will lose their parking permit for the remainder of the semester without a refund. Parking permit prices will not be prorated.
All parking regulations set forth in the California Vehicle code, Section #21113A, Division 11, shall be enforced by the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. Students that have purchased a valid parking permit but fail to display the permit will have appropriate consequences assigned, up to, and including towing at owners expense and loss of privilege to park on campus. Any vehicle/student parked on campus without the appropriate permit will be subject to citation and/or towing at the owner’s expense. If the school can identify the owner of the non-permitted vehicle, the responsible student will not be allowed to qualify for a valid permit for the remainder of the semester. CVHS assumes no responsibility for cars or their contents while parked on school property. The replacement fee for a lost/stolen permit is the same as purchasing a new permit. Any vehicle parked on school property during normal schools hours or during a school related activity is subject to being searched by school and/or law enforcement officials.
There are no medical parking spaces available. However, a student can request to the administration to have a reserved space. Students who have a temporary medical condition (less than 5 days) and possess a valid parking permit must submit a doctor’s note describing the condition, explaining why the condition requires a special consideration for a reserved spot, and when the student will be able to return to regular activity. Any condition that requires more than 5 days of special consideration will have to apply to the DMV for a temporary or permanent handicap space.
- All vehicles must have a valid parking permit visible (ex: hanging on mirror).
- All drivers must obey posted signs.
- All drivers must drive slower than 5 MPH in school parking lots.
- All vehicles must be parked within a designated parking stall.
- Students will not be allowed to loiter in the parking lots during the school day.
- Students will not be allowed to move cars once parked without authorization.
- Students may not leave campus without permission (white slip, period sticker required).
- The replacement fee for a lost/stolen permit is the same as purchasing a new permit.
Any student who purchases, sells, gives, loans, or receives a parking permit fraudulently will lose all parking privileges and be subject to school disciplinary action and will not be eligible to park on campus for the remainder of the semester plus one semester.
The owner of the parking permit is responsible for any misuse of the parking permit. Violation of parking regulations and/or reckless driving will result in disciplinary action and may include loss of parking privileges.
Permits are not transferable to another student and must be turned into the office if the student disenrolls from school.
Fresh Start/Cal Prep Parking: Fresh Start/Cal Prep students dually enrolled in one or more courses at Capistrano Valley High School must purchase a parking permit.
