Who will be a part of FROST BITES?
It’s an extraordinary year, and we will be looking for some extraordinary artists to make a different style of Frost Bites.
This year, Frost Bites will be accepting applications from artists, companies, or collectives interested in creating pieces that enhance the audience experience and promote a sense of connectivity and community in Hamilton and beyond. We will accept proposals for small scale, live, site-specific work, roving performances, digital experiences that engage audiences in innovative ways, and digital experiences that promote connectivity between audience members and their community (locally or beyond).
In a time when so many community members are struggling with isolation, the Festival will be looking for proposals that encourage connection and community building. Our ideal is to move audiences away from passive interaction with a static screen. The Festival will accept proposals that include innovative uses of technology or that engage live audiences in unique (and safe) performance-based experiences.
Some examples of work that might fit into the Festival include:
small-scale, live, site-specific work (ex: a one-to-one performance that takes place with the “barista” inside a coffee shop while coffee is brewed);
roving performances that can be enjoyed while the audience members and/or the performers are moving (a show inside a series of storefront windows that changes as you walk by, a drive-through experience, etc.);
digital experiences that engage audience members in innovative ways (ex: a mystery that takes place over the phone, with the listeners engaging with audio clues they use to help to solve a crime

digital experiences that promote connectivity between audience members and members of their community locally or beyond (ex: a show where audience members in two different cities listen to an audio file that leads them on a tour of their respective cities and prompts them to text about their experiences with each other.
We are looking for applications from artists, companies, or collectives who are playful risk-takers. Successful applications will express an innovative vision when approaching site-specific or digital work. We want to bring together a dynamic ensemble of companies and artists that can provide a unique and hopeful performance event in February.
FROST BITES is a site-specific festival that takes place in a non-traditional performance space and this year, in the digital realm.
Depending on the style of proposals submitted, companies may be asked to commit to multiple performances throughout the festival days.
Performance times may range from 5 minutes to 45 minutes.
The Festival will consider applications from companies and individuals working in a variety of performance disciplines or inter-arts projects (involving the collaboration of artists from different disciplines).
