  • About the Awards

  • Deadline October 28, 2024

The Montesi Awards are named for A. J. Montesi, a beloved emeritus professor in the Department of English. They are intended to celebrate the creative work of students at Saint Louis University. We invite submission of works in the following categories: fiction, poetry, drama, creative nonfiction, painting, drawing, printing, and photography. Submissions are open to all Saint Louis University undergraduates. Four prizes of $125 will be awarded. All genres and art forms are inter-competitive—i.e. literary work and visual artwork compete against each other for the four prizes. The selected work will be published in our undergraduate creative journal, Kiln. We are accepting submissions from now through Monday, October 28, 2024. Awards will be announced in November and recognized at the English Department Awards Reception in the spring.

  • Competition Guidelines

  • 1. All files must be PDFs, labeled with a title that corresponds to the title entered on this form. Your name should appear nowhere on the submission.

    2. Multiple submissions, in one genre or several, are allowed. However, we encourage you to use restraint: be selective, and submit your strongest work.

    3. Short works might be grouped together in a single PDF. For longer works, or submissions in various genres, make separate submissions to this site.

    4. Should your entry win, you agree to let the Kiln Project (an undergraduate publication of the Department of English) reproduce your work. As author or creator, you retain all other rights to it.
