  • Grant Application Basics

    ProVision grants are a legacy from the sale of a few congregational and camp properties (2008-2010) in Pacific Mountain Region (formerly B.C. Conference)

    ProVision Fund Criteria

    The ProVision Funds provide grants to empower those who intend to do one or more of the following:

    • Foster or create new ministries. In particular, but not exclusively, those which address one or more of the Region’s priorities: Identity (Reconciling, Intercultural, Affirming, Anti-Racist); Healthy Communities of Faith; and First Third Ministry;
    • Assist programs which reach out from the church to address needs in the community;
    • Research or strategic planning for the development of new ministry;
    • Launch new ministries or projects 'on the edge' of the church's experience or which are intended to address transformative change in the life of a Community of Faith; and
    • Develop community-based ministries, possibly partnering with other agencies or churches.

    Who can apply?

    Applications may be submitted by Communities of Faith, Ministries, *Clusters or **Networks of the United Church in the Pacific Mountain Region.
    (*Clusters are Communities of Faith grouped geographically. **Networks are persons and/or Communities of Faith grouped around a shared mission interest.)

     Please note!

    • Grants are not made for offsetting routine operating costs.
    • Grants can only be made to a group that has a Charitable Registration Number.
    • Grants can be recurring, but annual reporting and review wil be required.
    • While there are no longer Presbyteries, funding will continue for a stated period to correspond to previous Presbytery boundaries. The 5 Pacific Mountain Region ProVision Funds are: Comox-Nanaimo Area, Fraser Area, Victoria Area, Westminster Area and Pacific Mountain Region (for those areas not covered by other 4 funds.)
    • Criteria varies between ProVision Fund granting Areas. Please ensure you apply under your Area.
    • Grants are not made for capital expenditures (except in Fraser and Victoria Areas).
    • Application Deadlines in 2021: February 15th, May 15th and October 15th.
       
  • Application criteria

    Applications will demostrate:

    • a clear statement of goals
    • a well-developed plan for achieving the goals
    • a plan for measuring the outcomes
    • a clear Income and Expense budget
    • good management of both program and finances
    • approval and support of the applicants governing body

    Letters of Approval and/or Support are Important (NOTE - Requirements vary depending on whether your application is from a Community of Faith, a Cluster or a Network.)

    • If a Community of Faith or Ministry is applying , the Application must include a letter from an official stating that the governing body (e.g. the Board or Council) has reviewed the complete proposal and approved it. The extent of local financial support should be included in the Income budget.
    • If a Cluster is applying , letters of approval from the governing body (e.g. Council or Board) of at least two of the Communities of Faith participating should be included in the Application. The extent of local financial support should be included in the Income budget.
    • If a Network is applying , then at least two substantial letters of support from persons knowledgeable and experienced in the field of interest should be included with the Application. The extent of local financial support should be included in the Income budget of the proposal.

     Preference is given to proposals which include:

    • a strong faith commitment
    • cooperation among Communities of Faith or with other groups
    • financial support of the sponsoring Community of Faith
    • financial support from other sources
    • where applicable, stated support from others in the community active in the field of endeaver. 

      Additional information

    • These procedures and criteria are used by all 5 ProVision Fund committees in assessing Applications and awarding grants.
    • If any ProVision Fund Committee member is in conflict of interest with an Application, s/he will be excused from considering the Application.
    • Committees meet soon after deadlines dates, make decisions and promptly advise applicants.
    • Grants awarded are normally released as follows: 75% at the start and 25% subsequent to submitting a Final Report. Grant recipients must register for EFT (electronic fund transfer).

    You must register to be directed to the correct Application form for your Area.

    • Applications are fully electronic - you must write, edit, and submit your application (with supporting documents) online.
    • Applications that have not been completed and submitted within 90 days of registering will be automatically deleted.

    You may print a copy of the application form for drafting purposes but you will need to register with your name and e-mail address to complete and submit your application. If you are working on the Application as part of a team it is important that only one person from your team register for the application. A link will be sent to the e-mail address provided. This unique link can be shared with team members. Please note that everyone with whom you share your unique link has the ability to see, enter, delete, save, edit, and upload information, and submit the application.

    If your Community of Faith/Ministry/Network is applying for multiple projects, you will need to register separately for each project to obtain a unique link each.
