CLIENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
· To notify your care provider, sign any relevant policy documents
to ensure the release of your placenta, and have any documents,
including your birth preferences with information about keeping and
storing your placenta in your file.
· To remind your care providers at the birth that you want to keep your
placenta and to ensure proper storage/cooling.
· It is recommended to not let the placenta out of your sight at all!! Be
prepared with an esky and ice packs.
· To call me or notify me (within my hours of work) of the birth of the
placenta asap to arrange prompt collection or delivery.
· The placenta is handled according to food safety standards until it is
collected.
· To adequately store and/or transport your placenta in the fridge or
freezer within the required time to ensure your placenta is safe for
consumption.
· Your placenta will need to be frozen if it cannt be encapsulated within
3 days maximum after birth.
· To ensure you speak with your care provider to decide whether this service is for you, and if you have any medical concerns after birth (such as ongoing baby blues, low milk supply etc.).
o (you may choose not to tell your care provider what you will be
doing with your placenta, and it is your right, your placenta is
yours to do with as you please, however I cannot be liable to
determine its health or safety for consumption).
· To ensure adequate storage and cooling items (in case nothing is
available at the hospital) including an esky and ice packs as per the
instructions on booking. You CANNOT rely on the hospital to provide
appropriate cooling/storage for you, so ensure you have something
with you.
· To ensure all fees are paid in full prior to the beginning of the
encapsulation process
· To disclose all true and valid information regarding your health and
the health of the placenta to ensure safe consumption. Please inform
me of any known blood-borne illness (es) or other health issues
(such as HIV, hepatitis, etc.) that could place me or any others who
may come in contact with bodily fluids (specifically maternal and
fetal blood and amniotic fluid) at risk. In the interest of safety for
myself and my clients, I choose not to work on any placentas if these
illnesses are present (It is NOT ethical to ask for medical records or
proof. Universal Sanitation requirements are vital regardless).
