• Wattsburg Wrestling Club Registration

Wattsburg Wrestling Club (hereinafter, “WWC” or the “Club”) is dedicated to raising the standard of youth and high school wrestling in Pennsylvania, the United States of America, and internationally through the creation and enforcement of this Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct defines the expectations for WWC coaches, parents/guardians, and wrestlers at all wrestling related activities and events, youth or otherwise, and explains the tools to be used by WWC, when necessary, to regulate behavior, resolve problems, and protect both children and adults from any psychological, emotional, physical, or social abuses that may be perpetrated against them during their participation in youth sports. WWC firmly believes that for the wrestling experience to be a positive, safe, and enjoyable learning experience for all, coaches, parents/guardians, and wrestlers must be held accountable for their behavior when working in and around any wrestling environment, especially youth wrestling.

    • WWC CODE OF CONDUCT POLICY

    • DISCIPLINE FOR VIOLATIONS

Any wrestler, coach, or parent/guardian of a wrestler who violates the Code of Conduct or is otherwise determined by their actions to be detrimental in any way to children or adults at any wrestling activity or event will face disciplinary action.  Behavior warranting this discipline is not limited to violations of the specific items set forth in the Code of Conduct.  A violation of the Code of Conduct includes, but is not limited to any behavior that is illegal, unethical, immoral, inappropriate, or in conflict with general standards of decency and WWC’s values.

The below are general guidelines that cover some common situations; however, the circumstances of every situation will be reviewed for the proper disciplinary action despite the following:

EJECTION after TWO WARNINGS for taunting, criticizing, or jeering at opposing players.

EJECTION after ONE WARNING for cursing, badgering, name-calling or use of foul language, directed at anyone including an official, coach, wrestler, or spectator including the parent/guardian of a wrestler and/or their guests.

EJECTION after NO WARNINGS for intentionally trying to hurt another by means of fighting, brawling, etc.

CLUB EXPULSION for repeated cursing and/or fighting as well as any other offenses committed that are of such magnitude or repetition that WWC believes it is in the best interest of its members and the WWC community that the person be expelled from the Club.

An impartial WWC coach or the appropriate wrestling official will determine the proper disciplinary action to be taken, if any.

      A.  Coach Code of Conduct

Coaches are responsible for the conduct of Wattsburg Wrestling Club wrestlers and their parents/guardians.  If, at the request of the referee, a coach refuses to exercise control of wrestlers and/or their parents/guardians, the coach may be removed from the wrestling event or activity along with any and all offending spectators and/or wrestlers.

Pursuant to the foregoing, I agree that:

I will adhere to the Coach Code of Conduct and abide by the Wattsburg Wrestling Club Code of Conduct disciplinary rules while participating in any wrestling activity, regardless of the sponsoring municipality or organization.
I will place the emotional and physical well-being of Wattsburg Wrestling Club wrestlers ahead of a personal desire to win and remember that I am a youth wrestling coach and that the sport is for children and not adults.
I will treat each wrestler as an individual, expect age appropriate skills from each of them, and practice positive reinforcement at all times.
I will keep an open line of communication between myself and other coaches, parents/guardians, and wrestlers.
I will try not to coach my own child at practices and whenever possible will refrain from coaching my own child at tournaments.  This includes not coaching from the sidelines.
I will be on the mats at all times during practice and reserve discussions with parents or spectators for before or after practice unless absolutely necessary.
I will attend practices regularly to understand what the team has worked on, so that I may effectively coach at other practices and tournaments.
I will be respectful in victory and defeat and refrain from using profanity at any tournaments, practices or any other youth wrestling events.
I will at all times display the conduct expected of me as a representative of Wattsburg Wrestling Club, act in a sportsmanlike manner consistent with the spirit of fair play and conduct myself in a manner that will not in any way bring disrespect, or dishonor to either myself, Wattsburg Wrestling Club, or the athletes or other representatives of Wattsburg Wrestling Club.
I will conform to all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations, and any rules, regulations, and codes that may be established for competitions, camps, clinics, appearances or other events, programs, and activities in which I participate.
I will respect the property of others, whether personal or public.
I will respect members of Wattsburg Wrestling Club, other teams and delegations, spectators, coaches, trainers, administrators, and officials, and engage in no form of verbal, physical, or sexual harassment, or abuse.  I will not engage in any inappropriate behavior with athletes, coaches, trainers, administrators, officials, or volunteers, nor will I use or attempt to use my position to exert undue influence or to seek unfair advantage over others, including athletes.

      B.  Wrestler Code of Conduct

The essential elements of character-building and ethics in wrestling are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and the following principles:  hard work, commitment to excellence, respect, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, responsibility and good citizenship.  The highest potential of wrestling is achieved when competition reflects these pillars of character.

Pursuant to the foregoing, I agree that:

I will adhere to the Wrestler Code of Conduct and abide by the Wattsburg Wrestling Club Code of Conduct disciplinary rules while participating in any wrestling activity, regardless of the sponsoring municipality or organization.
I will participate in wrestling to have fun and remember that doing my best is far more important than winning.
Win or lose, I will shake the hands of my opponent and my opponent’s coach.
I will not engage in or encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health or wellbeing of another including any hostile, violent, or negative behavior or the use of drugs, tobacco or alcohol.
I will wait until a coach is in the wrestling room before stepping onto the wrestling mats or touching any other wrestling or training related object.
I will make every effort to attend all scheduled practices and will work my hardest at each.  I understand that I if I do not, then I will be asked to sit out for the rest of practice.
I will not be disruptive during practice or competitions and understand that if I am, then my parent/guardian will be required to accompany me until I am able to act appropriately.
I will inform a coach of any physical disability or ailment that may affect my performance, safety or the safety of another.
I will respect the authority and judgment of coaches and officials during any wrestling related event or activity including practices and tournaments.  I will follow their directions and never confront them.  Instead, my parents and I will speak calmly with a Wattsburg Wrestling Club coach at an appropriately agreed upon time and place.
I will respect the property of others, whether personal or public.
I will conform to all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations, and any rules, regulations, and codes that may be established for competitions, camps, clinics, appearances or other events, programs, and activities in which I participate.

      C.  Wattsburg Wrestling Club Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct

Please work with the Wattsburg Wrestling Club coaches and wrestling community to reinforce these character traits for our children.

Pursuant to the foregoing, I agree that:

I will adhere to the Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct and abide by the Wattsburg Wrestling Club Code of Conduct disciplinary rules while I participate in any wrestling activity, regardless of the sponsoring municipality or organization.  I will ensure that any other parent/guardian of my child who does not sign the Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct will adhere to it and the Wattsburg Wrestling Club Code of Conduct disciplinary rules at any time that I am subject to them.  I further ensure that any guest of mine or that of any other parent/guardian who does not sign the Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct will adhere to it and the Wattsburg Wrestling Club Code of Conduct disciplinary rules at any time that I am subject to them.
I will review the Wrestler Code of Conduct thoroughly with my child and explain the language of it so that the meaning of each clause is understood by my child before signing it or allowing my child to sign it.
I will remember that children participate in wrestling to have fun, that tournaments are for the children, not the adults, and will teach my child the same.  I will not force my child to participate in wrestling and will never ridicule or punish my child or any other wrestler for making a mistake or losing a match.
I will accept the fact that my child may not be socially or developmentally ready for wrestling and I will respect the coach’s judgment about waiting until my child is ready.
I will emphasize that attendance at practice, hard work, commitment, and skill development are what drive improvement in wrestling.
I will attend and provide additional supervision at all practices, tournaments, and any other wrestling related activity or event that my child attends if a Wattsburg Wrestling Club coach determines that my child needs such additional supervision.  I will also intervene in a calm manner if my child’s behavior is in any way unacceptable at a match or practice.
I will refrain from “coaching” my child from the sidelines at practices or tournaments.  It is the coach’s job to coach and develop my child as an athlete.  I understand that I should not offer advice on technique or mat strategy – it is not my responsibility.  It will only serve to confuse my child and prevent the wrestler-coach bond from forming.
I will support at home the completion of any homework given to my child by Wattsburg Wrestling Club and will reinforce at home any disciplinary actions taken against my child due to violations of the Wrestler Code of Conduct.
I will inform a coach of any physical disability or ailment that may affect my child’s performance or safety or the safety of another.
I will not engage in or encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health or wellbeing of another including any hostile, violent, or negative behavior or the use of drugs, tobacco or alcohol.
I will respect the authority and judgment of coaches and officials during any wrestling related event or activity including practices and tournaments.  I will follow their directions and never confront them.  Instead, I will speak calmly with a Wattsburg Wrestling Club coach at an appropriately agreed upon time and place.
I will respect the property of others, whether personal or public.
I will conform to all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations, and any rules, regulations, and codes that may be established for competitions, camps, clinics, appearances or other events, programs, and activities in which I participate.
I will learn the rules of wrestling and the policies of Wattsburg Wrestling Club.
